So after so many acoustic nights I guess it'd be too much to hope for another one even nicer nylon-based sounds and, oh, who knows, Yamandu Costa?

I made the trek from KC this week (just got back a couple hours ago), and spent the evening at Birdland and saw Cyrille Aimee first, then went downstairs for Guitar Night after getting a vinyl signed by her and having a brief chat. Both shows were a lot of fun to watch and people say Birdland is kinda touristy, but I thought it was still had a good vibe. The goat cheese/arugula salad was delicious too. It's always surreal seeing people in real life that you've watched on youtube quite a bit.

Next trip to NYC I'll head to Village Vanguard. I'm fortunate my wife has a job in Manhattan so I can pop out there pretty easy since the flight and hotel is taken care of.

No, and Google doesn’t have related results for

Debut C: its coding and rocket ships
Debut C Music: this is artists with albums named Debut
Debut C Guitar: YouTube hits for how to play a C chord.

Oh, you think it was one of Frank's funny jokes, not about flat tyres this time? I guess I could have thought of that...

Were you not playing on Debussy?

No, not me, I just transcribed what I heard. But you made me realise that Frank might have been (rather than genuinely not being able to pronounce the name correctly).

Gene is a wonderful player, as well as a warm, gregarious and generous human whose knowledge of music and the guitar is profound. He's obviously not a young man and has moved into a retirement home in the past few years. Gene's most recent recordings are great (a collection of duos with various musicians on one, a trio with vocalist Mellisa Stylianou and bassist Ike Sturm on the other- on both records he seems to have adjusted his technique for age and dexterity with outstanding results). And his solo CDs Body and Soul and Quiet Now are amazing among an excellent discography.

In lieu of a live stream tonight, as this week's guest is Mike Stern, Birdland are streaming a show from 23 February 2022 featuring guests Jimmy Bruno and the late great Jack Wilkins.

Great listening experience, thanks for posting.

They play Charlie Parker's Segment at 1hour 5min. A great tune, played by these top Jazz guitarists, where Frank Vignola plays a few ala Martino homage repeated licks.

Do you think he might be efficient about it, and just knows things like "oh, here I could play all the notes between ? and ? (if I just do it fast enough that no one notices the outliers)"?

I think Grasso studied the greats and went from there. A long run of 16th notes isn’t anything spectacular in bebop.

I think he knows the notes he plays. I was not criticizing his playing, just sayin'...

    Yes, I read that too.

    Pasquale Grasso, quotes:
"I studied with a great piano player, Barry Harris, when I was nine years old. That was always the sound that I liked, and I tried to transfer that onto the guitar."

"Bud (Powell) has been my inspiration ever since I was six years old. Everything that he plays – single lines, chords, his compositions – has influenced me. And the same thing with Monk and Art Tatum and Teddy Wilson. There’s just something about the piano."
