It's actually a little bit snarky even in the US, which was intended.

Oh, was I wrong in assuming that real pros referred to musicians rather than writers of some sort of sort?
I guess I'll have to take my observation back then.
And yes I'm aware of that. My point was that everyone here has some other job that keeps them busy -- aside from those of you who are retired. Professional musicians aren't so much busier than lawyers and dentists that they simply do not have the time for this forum. They have some amount of time comparable to other busy professionals. Of which there are presumably many on this site.

So I'm guessing the reason more accomplished musicians don't spend time on here is that they'd rather talk to be people about music than be heckled from the cheap seats.

Next time anyone feels that urge I'll have to flag the post.

No. They rather spend that time playing for their own pleasure, or doing (incl. talking about) other things. Which is exactly what the busy non-music pros do on here.

    I guess you would know.

I would note that, for a conversation about Mike Stern being overly sensitive to internet trolls, the sensitivity level is running rather high.

Very big talk from people who won't even post a clip in the melody thread...

    Thanks for providing my big-smile-of-the-day!

Yea, flagging a post because someone uses "dude" is over the top IMO, but hey, maybe I'm just not very emphatic.

Also note; I hope I didn't imply that Stern was being overly sensitive. I.e. I didn't intent to comment on how one should feel and\or one's feelings but instead how one reacts to said feelings. i.e. their actions not feelings. I just object with suppression of content, as well as letting trolls win by getting people to suppress content.

"Dude" is not a derogatory term, it's simply slang for man. However, it can be used as a synonym for "dandy," like many slang terms it's precise meaning depends on how it's used.

Snarky, mayhaps … but if someone is offering up criticism on how to handle negative feedback as a performer, a reasonable first question would be … “do you often subject yourself to potential negative feedback by publicly sharing your performances?”

On a site where people pretty routinely do that, its absence can be pretty conspicuous in a situation like this.

So snarky, yes. But …. do you often subject yourself to potential negative feedback by publicly sharing your performances?

I will note once again that, for a conversation about Mike Stern being overly sensitive to internet trolls, the sensitivity level is running rather high.

I was trying to be ironic. As for playing music, I play at parties and for my family and friends. While I love to play and know a lot of standards and Beatles tunes my overall skills are limited. My profession is software\IT.

But I fail to see how your question or that prior comment applies to a performance by a professional and what went down with Stern and Guitar Night.

As for your question to a professional: Anytime a professional is out-there they subject themselves to potential negative feedback (from trolls or professional critics). For acting there are even annual awards for poor performances. Putting oneself out-there, period, is just part of being a professional. I'm sorry if people at this forum feel that is some type of attack at professionals in general or Stern specifically.

The question applies because, with all due respect, you don't really have the relevant experience in this area to be critical of how someone like Mike Stern chooses to handle people being jerks about his performance.

Putting oneself out there is absolutely part of being a performing professional. But someone with experience in that field would also know that choosing when and how they do that, making some small sacrifices in favor of their own mental health, and doing things they need to do to keep the experience enjoyable is also a crucial part of of being a performing professional.

Good point. I just hope that, since jerks will never go away, that they don't have additional impact on the health of others.

Excellent players, and nice trading back and forth between Grasso and Jones, second tune.... Bruno.....on a 175?.. nice tone.....And Frank is in actually...
Thx, as always David for the reminders.

A funny observation, Jimmy's tie is a match for his fret markers, and Frank's is also colour coordonated with his guitar as is Garry's with his bass.

Oh, and Frank's timer watch on his amp somewhat retro in this digital age, as they say.Frank Vignola's Guitar Night, an ongoing concert and livestream series-screenshot-2025-02-05-21-37-44-png

That may be the only tie Gary owns, or maybe he has multiple identical ones.

That 175 looks brand new, except for the headstock. It's strange how it looks, but maybe it's just the way the cameras hit it.
