Have any of you used the Quilter SuperBlock as a preamp into a Henriksen amp? I play a Bud 6 into a Raezer's Edge Stealth 10ER cabinet with a few pedals. I've been intrigued by the SuperBlock US and ordered one yesterday. When I was looking for ways to integrate it into my current setup AI came back with a routing that I hadn't thought of. Since AI pulls its info from the web, it may have gotten the idea from this site but I couldn't find anything using the search function. I've used preamp pedals plenty of times, but this Y-cable setup is new to me. I ordered a Y cable from Sweetwater so I could try this out when the SuperBlock arrives. Here's a copy and paste from the AI response.
Because the Henriksen uses a single TRS insert jack for its loop, the TRS plug must plug into the Henriksen's FX loop jack. From there, the two split mono ends (Send and Return) handle the routing. If you want to use the True 4-Cable Method to completely replace the Henriksen’s internal EQ with the Quilter's vintage Fender preamp, while keeping your UA Golden isolated, wire it exactly like this:
The Real 4-Cable Routing Map
- The Front End Chain:
- Ibanez GB10 --> Peterson Tuner --> Hagerman Valve --> Empress ParaEQ.
- Out of the Empress ParaEQ straight into the Main Guitar Input on the front of the Quilter SuperBlock US.
- Connecting the Henriksen Loop (The Y-Cable):
- Plug the TRS (Stereo) end of your new cable directly into the Henriksen Bud 6 FX Loop jack.
- Identify the two split ends. Usually, Tip = Send (Output from Henriksen's internal preamp) and Ring = Return (Input directly to Henriksen's power amp). Check your cable's label or manual to confirm which color is Tip and which is Ring.
- Routing the Remainder:
- Leave the "Tip" (Henriksen Send) unplugged/dangling. (By leaving it disconnected, you are intentionally killing the Henriksen's internal preamp signal so it doesn't bleed into your mix).
- Take a standard patch cable and run from the Quilter's FX Loop SEND into the Input of the UA Golden Reverberator.
- Insert the "Ring" (Henriksen Return) mono plug of your Y-cable into the Output of the UA Golden Reverberator.
[Guitar] --> [Tuner] --> [Hagerman Valve] --> [Empress EQ] --> [Quilter MAIN INPUT]
(Quilter FX SEND) --> [UA Golden INPUT]
[UA Golden OUTPUT] --> [Henriksen FX LOOP JACK] <-- (TRS Single Plug) -- [Y-CABLE "RING" (Return)]
* Note: Y-Cable "TIP" (Send) is left disconnected.
What This Actually Accomplishes
By routing it this way, your guitar signal goes through your board, hits the Quilter preamp, passes into the UA Golden for reverb, and then shoots through the "Ring" cable straight into the Henriksen's power amp stage.
The Henriksen’s front panel EQ knobs will now be completely bypassed and non-functional, giving you 100% pure Quilter Fender tone blasted through Henriksen's pristine, high-wattage power section.
