Wow, I was unfamiliar with Freddie Bryant, and I have never heard Grasso's sound be so good as with that ES-175CC. Great playing!

Thanks! Only had time now to watch the first song. What a contrast between these three players. I love Ulf but his solo between (appr) the 4 and 6 minute mark seems a little rough. I never look for people’s mistakes and I like it when people take chances. But this felt a little rough somehow. Then Pasquale takes over and almost appears subdued in comparison, but man does he play. Finally it’s Frank’s turn and I liked his solo best in this particular song, perhaps because he took it in a blues direction. Great sound too and nice to see him with his signature Eastman again.here's tonight with Ulf Wakenius

I've been fortunate to be able to attend a couple of Guitar Night shows - the last one was in Jan, w/Grasso/Pizzarelli being the guests. Lot of energy that evening - all the musicians seemed to be having a bunch of fun, as did the audience. Just purchased some tix for Oct. 29 show, featuring Grasso, Peplowski and the usual suspects. I don't in any way mean to belittle Frank, Ted, Gary and Alex (all of whom I view with awe and respect and enjoy listening to immensly), but I'm really looking forward to hearing Pasquale and Ken perform together... I've heard Peplowski and Howard Alden as a duet, and that was a real gas...
In the "You Gotta Love NY" dept, a week or so ago Frank's guest was guitarist John Dunn - who was introduced as being from Tasmania. You really don't hear about many (any?) hot Jazz players from Tasmania; I wonder if he was the one who suggested "The Muskrat Ramble" be on the set list? I hadn't heard that one since I was a kid and my mom would play it on the piano - brought back some good memories...

I thought everyone played well. But I liked how Frank called back to the theme in his Straight No Chaser solo. It’s validating to hear a pro do something I would do.
Josh Dunn was on a handful of SwingYouCats clips.

Josh Dunn plays in several bands specializing in early trad jazz.
-
Oops, got the name wrong... I obviously wasn't familiar with Josh Dunn - the tunes in the video clips are great. I'll be keeping an eye out for any gigs he has scheduled that I can make it to.

Josh Dunn is at Birdland every Thursday night with The High Society New Orleans Jazz Band.
