I think he means that the repeat count starts after the first chorus in Quartet. So if it's set to, say, 3 repeats it plays a total of 4 choruses. I have to say, I find that non-obvious as well. In contrast, the repeat count in iReal is just the total number of choruses, which is I suspect what most people expect.

I can see what you are saying Johnathan. But the app is not counting the no of chorus repeats, it's counting the number of repeats AFTER the initial form. We need to look at this again and see how best to do it going forward.

It would be great if we could type in the time values instead of only using the '+' and '-' buttons.

    Thanks Paul.

So let's look at Out of Nowhere in Quartet:

    1. The first A section should include the first B section. The next A section (measure 25) should include the C section (measure 33). That's the whole song form.

    2. The A Repeat (AKA the solo) same form as above, #1. (How many choruses here should be what player wants.)

    3. Finally after the solo, repeat song as in #1

The way it is now, the song just ends after the C (solo) part measure 65 without playing the "head".

None of this stuff is probably easy. But just wanted to give an example. Someone more musically literate than me will probably explain better.

The website says that the app is compatible with a Mac M1 or M2, but when I go to buy the app it says "only available for iphone or ipad", what am I missing?
I also see "not verified for Mac OS".

Will it work on a M2 Macbook Air and a M2 Mac studio?

I have the same question: What Mac versions is it not compatible with?

Hi there. We have an update scheduled for Nov 12th (hopefully that date will be met) and there is a NEW improved system for tempo change which I think you will like which is currently being tested. Certainly, the current +/- has been way too fiddly and this was a priority fix.

    Thanks Paul

I am going to pass this on to Geoff Gascoyne (Producer) who is more musically literate than me (despite my music degree!!!)

I really like the play-along app Quartet and have Volumes 1 and 2. It makes the robotic feel of iTunes obsolete — I’ve always avoided that. I use about 70 tracks from Quartet for my solo piano cocktail gigs. The count-in click is a too loud for that setting, so I’m hoping a future update will include a much softer click option.

Thanks for sharing this. We are introducing an alternative hi-hat count-in BUT I don't think it will make the Nov 12th update BUT it will be in the one after so expecting it before Christmas. Could you use the silent count-in in the meantime?

Chord symbol text that is black is hard to see on an iPhone against blue measures. White colored measures fix this instantly, giving maximum contrast and making the text sharp and readable in any light. They also look clean and professional, ensuring your chord symbols always stand out clearly. Then you can make the overall background color behind the white colored measures blue for a balanced, attractive design.

Thanks for these excellent suggestions. I will share with the wider team. Thanks Paul

Hi there. Quartet is compatible with ANY silicon Mac ie. M1 chip and above. It's NOT a dedicated Mac app which is no doubt why you are getting this message. In practice, all this really means is that there are no Mac shortcuts at the moment e.g. have to use mouse to stop/start songs. Bear with us on this.
You only have to buy Quartet once to play it on all your devices [iPhone, iPad and Mac] provided you use the same Apple ID. Quartet will not play on older Intel Macs.

Thanks for the reply. You are right about the dead end. It only happens once in a session. It's because the edition you are trying to open a song in isn't open. Once it's open it won't do that. It's annoying but we will fix it!![/QUOTE]

We have been testing the update due out on November 12th. The 'handover' between different editions of the apps is greatly improved and there are a number of big improvements. Roll on November 12th!! Quartet 5 due out on the same day.

We have been testing the new tempo controls and I hope you will find it is way easier to change tempo. Update due out November 12th

That would be awesome. I struggle at times to find best chord voicings on guitar on chords with extensions.

Just picked up the full bundle. Connected my Ipad with simple adapter into front of my Scarlett 6i6 external USB sound interface on a Windows PC and the sound quality is excellent.

Just scrolling thorough tunes that I know and the performances are great.

What kind of adaptor did you need/use?

I use an Ipad Air 11 inch.
It has a USB C to 3.5mm headphone audio cable adapter that you plug into the USB C charging port.

    Quartet app-mu7e2-jpg

From there I just use a separate common 3.5mm audio cable which is male on both ends.

    Quartet app-3-5mm-jpg

Then that plugs into a 1/4" male TRS adapter.

    Quartet app-trs-jpg

That plugs into one of the the 1/4 TRS/XLR ports on my Scarlett.

    Quartet app-focusrite_scarlett-6i6_2ndgen_front-elevated-82e18fd05b9c2a37c01a7596137df6b3-jpg

I had these cables and the 1/4 male TRS adapter in my parts box.

One can easily grab these all off of Amazon cheap.

I think I am going to get a 3.5mm male to XLR Male cable and not have to use the TRS adapter.
    Quartet app-getimage-jpg

EDIT- I did try the 3.5mm male to the XLR male cable and it worked fine as long as I had the Scarlett Input 1 set to INSTRUMENT vs LINE input. (Line setting only got one channel of the signal).
Sounded good with the INSTRUMENT setting but there was some increased noise floor.

I ended up getting a 3.5 mm male to dual TS cable and running into Input 1 and Input 2 of the front of the Scarlett and setting the Scarlett to LINE input in each channel.
    Dead quiet and sounds excellent.

I should add that I am already using the USB input of the Scarlett with my PC so this is just to get it into the audio chain.

Today I had the chance to try out the new way of changing the tempo. It turned out great — thank you, Paul.

Another thing I’m still hoping to see implemented — and I think a few people have already requested this — is the option to view the entire sheet on a single, vertically-oriented page for iPad users. I personally prefer seeing the whole sheet at once, without the scrolling, and I believe many fellow jazz players feel the same.

Once again, thank you so much, Paul. Quartet is the best!

Hi there. An alternative option to view the entire song chord chart in portrait (with PDF print option) is being developed and will be here soon. Paul

First, I just want to say I think this will be great and that it’s refreshing having a developer for an app like this be so communicative.

On a related note to being able to see more at a glance: repeats are I think difficult to reason about sometimes, both during configuration and playback, most especially in more complex forms (EG ABCA) as only any given A section is flagged as a repeat visually. The chorus numbers on the side of each measure are IMO too small to really eyeball a lot of the time during playback.

I think it would be amazing if there was a summary HUD that would display the current arrangement and your place in it during playback. I could see this being a pinned bar at the top/bottom of the playback when the controls are hidden as well.

As a crude text-based example for a song with an intro, 4 choruses of solo configured, and an outro (with a highlighted node for the active section during playback):

    [In] [Head] [1] [2] [3] [4] [Head] [Out]
