4 February 2026
Bruce Forman, Pasquale Grasso, Ulf Wakenius and Vinny Raniolo guest.
-
Love those double stops and triads Forman tosses in his solos.
-
I watched both the Forman and Bernstein guitar nights while doing tax prep. Saved my sanity.
Ulf Wakenius opens the night in the one that features Forman. Ulf's got some formidable straight-ahead chops.
I thought Pasquale Grasso played mostly fingerstyle - maybe he changes it up? He's mostly playing with a pick on these nights.
I was pretty amazed to discover that he can make legato sound picked. He has a pretty snappy fretting hand when he wants to do that.
-
It looks to me, Pasquale’s got a hybrid technique like Danny Gatton did. Just effortless and smooth.
-
Always a pick for single note lines. Pick + remaining fingers for chords.

Tastes differ ... to me it's smooched to death... This weeks session was a bit more enjoyable to me thanks to the other players, but last week's made me hit the stop button pretty quickly because all those fast, muffle notes bored and annoyed the heck out of me.

But hey, as long as it doesn't become FV Guitar Orchestra Night :smirk:

I once wasn't the biggest Pasquale fan, but he has grown on me and I now love him.

They got Jimmy up this week!

That one started out nice, but I hope the singer just had a bad night (let's say my partner and I both grimaced, and I was reminded a bit too much about the thread on perfect tuning in the classical corner...)
-
Janis Siegel is not my favorite singer. But Frank supports his friends, no matter what. Have to give him credit for that.
-
Lucky us he never got to befriend Florence Foster Jenkins then
-
I'm listening to it now, I don't mind her! Whatever vocal shortcomings she has, she makes up for it with her stage presence and attitude. I respect that, and it's entertaining, I take it over some sweet and pretty, but fake singers who I saw there before, don't wanna name any names...
She's cool in my book.

Good for you, but I find that if you want to be "funny" on stage, you have to be even better, otherwise it becomes very annoying very quickly. Esp. when you act as if you own the band (and they are so much better than you).

That was a good one! Really dig Ed's playing.

Ah! I was hoping they'd do a wednesday one with Jonathan too, bummer that it doesn't appear to be an all-acoustic event though.

Go Johnny Go!!
