Rubato, I said, and literally just the bare bones melody as required. If you want the full embellished version with steady backing rhythm just say the word.
something wrong with you people

Dangit rag, you didn't let the game go on long enough...I knew the answer!

I should *** well think so!

Rubato still has to have some internal time. There’s a push and pull that needs to happen. If the phrase is out of time with itself then the melody isn’t clear.

when you think about songs with words, then there are ways that the rubato can actually make the song lose its logic. Harder to find those cadence points in a song with no words but they are there.

You probably know the story of the painting that wasn't Chelsea Bridge but Battersea Bridge. Ironically that one's closed at the moment for repair work. Re-opening Autumn '25.

BS. I played it like I felt it and I know it really well. If it passed over your teachery head too bad. No musical sense, that's my trouble.

Ah, I thought I'd be in the clear offering constructive, melody-specific feedback with respect to an unaccompanied melody posted in a thread called "Just the Melody."
Pardon my unnecessary, ivory tower, academic nonsense.
As you were.

Sorry, I do know it (even heard a friend play it at a gig last weekend), but had trouble hearing it your version. Also, in general I find it really hard to separate melody and harmony with Strayhorn. I hear one without the other and I'm like "huh? what the heck is that", but I hear them together and I'm like "oh yeah!"

Absolutely. I have a theory that people have heard of it but don't know it that well. If you don't know it fairly intimately then perhaps the unaccompanied version might seem a bit random. Or something like that.

Maybe this one was a bit obscure for here.
This is a painting by Grimshaw. I have stood where that man is standing.

Gonna subject you to a ballad as I'm starting to work on a solo version of this tune. So I thought this exercise would be beneficial to burn this melody into my brain.

Nice.

This is a difficult melody-Confirmation-Ch.Parker.
That's why I play this melody at a comfortable tempo.

Moreso even than "Donna Lee" this tune for me is the essence and heart of the bebop language. Beautiful, but tricky, logical, but surprising.

Anyhow, here's "Embraceable You"

La Fiesta-A beautiful guitar melody composed by Ch.Corea.I

It seems to me that I was played it for the first time at the guitar forum.

Playing all around a pug-nosed dream (up tempo), hopefully reflecting more of the latter than the former. Having some trouble with this tune's bridge because the rhythm changes at that point. And my guitar tone sucks but I ordered a new microphone which should fix that.

I've done the melody. Twice. Well, also at the end. Unfortunately you're getting the full version but you can always turn it off.
The thing here was trying to get the backing right within my limited means. Also, solo-wise, seeing what more than Dorian would fit. Purists will notice I've used D7-Db7 for the t/around. I preferred it because the proper chords are too fiddly to get a lot of variety out of.

Oh, that's a good one, I think I'll do that one too.
