Seems to me that Coltrane’s Equinox might have been inspired by Star Eyes? The intro is obviously derived from Bird’s, also the title is to do with planetary stuff, and even the melody has some similar rhythmic phrasing to Star Eyes.

Sounds like a deal. My plan was to learn it as close to Parker's version as possible anyway!

Things kinda quiet here the last couple days. I got to thinking that "Satin Doll" is one I would not even want to try to play "melody only" so decided just to strap in and give it a try. Couple clams here, but actually I enjoyed spending time with "just" the melody. I hope I was "just" to the melody!

I got sick, then one of my dogs got sick. I’ve probably only practiced 4-5 hours this week. No time to make a video. I’ve got a 4 hour solo gig Friday I’m trying to prep for.

You gave it to the dog!

Get well soon. You too, Allan

Okay, I did another one. Can you tell which forum members videos I’ve been watching?

Hopefully it's a mild case of Bird flu and when you recover you'll find your ability to play be-bop is much improved, not sure how it will affect the dog though, maybe he'll start barking whenever he hears a Charlie Parker recording.

Another tune that has a pretty simple but very interesting melodic progression. I tried to do no chords, but a couple slipped through.

So here's "Blue Moon" which I actually have played several times in jam sessions many years ago. I love this tune.
For some reason the Fender Princeton Reverb amp is also scratching an itch for me.

Another more or less pure melody. Love this tune.

There are so many layers to this I don’t even know where to start

Don't bother, just add it to my ever growing list of "strange comments."

But surely the world is in desperate need of the jazz equivalent of the rockin' pneumonia and boogie-woogie flu?

Don't worry, I thought it was funny.

Im still wait in for the answer on this.

Also it sounded good! How are you coming up with fingerings for this? Some interesting ones that all seemed to work well.

Has this thread had its day?

Anyway, here we go, just the melody of There Is No Greater Love, which is quite a nice tune. Which also spells tingle, as it happens...

Of course, proper jazzers speed it up and play it like there's no tomorrow. Don't know why, maybe they think slow stuff is boring, and maybe it is.

This one I learned by ear from the Gene Ammons version. This is the fingering I stumbled upon when I learned it and I never thought to try and optimize it. Since it's a jazz standard instead of a GAS Standard, I've never taken it around the cycle of fourths. Kind of one that I got good enough to work and moved on. This is one I've concentrated comping/single notes in an 80/20 ratio. Every new comping trick I find I shove into Four and see how it goes.

I was trying to copy Altar

When I do anything on cam I always have it well lit because I'm worried I'll look creepy if it's dark haha. Then I notice some people just do that on videos or in OS live classes so I don't feel bad.

I do my videos dark so that my fans don't mob me in the streets wherever I go. You know, all those jazz guitar fans wandering our streets...right, okay maybe 3 guys and a creepy stalker...

'Star Eyes' has a great melody. I arranged the tune in 5/4 (with a bridge in 4) last year for my daughter's EP and I now have to be careful not to slip into the refashioned intro if someone calls it on a gig!

Thanks Peter. I did most of the arrangements on the EP with some input from Genevieve and I could easily taken the guitar chair but decided it would be better to give her some space.

The guitarist is a mate of mine, Sam Rollings here in Sydney. We regularly toss each other gigs and he did such a fine job on all the tracks.

Heres's Ladybird with one chorus of solo so that I could get to the shout chorus.
