Let's respect each other.Someone who wants to harm me might as well call me a troll.
These are usually verbal skirmishes or misunderstandings.
I suggest you take a vacation and think about music in concentration.
I used to not be able to get along with Ragman, but I recovered from it.
You have to wrap yourself up and understand that we are in a virtual world.
Positive intentions are not always properly understood.
That's the problem.
Sorry... I'm taking a vacation.
Good luck

I saw. Is this your summer holiday or have you found somewhere to play regularly? You were always happier when playing in public. Good luck to you. I think my playing outside days are over :-)
Did you like my 'Bedtime Blues' for Mr. Strat? I though it was quite good, amazingly

You know I hate to agree with the strat but this sounds quite nice. Vibes playing is lovely.
The bass is pretty good too? There’s always a bit of an uncanny valley with the tone quality of a bass keys or synth or whatever but I’m not sure why anyone would care enough to argue about it for three days. Certainly better bass than I would play, probably by a lot.
Theres a little something with the accents in the first chorus where you don’t hear the roots really clearly, but it settles in. Maybe that’s what everyone is on about. Who knows.
I kind of think it sounds great.
are drums you too?

Thanks guys! Was on vaca and didn't see the posts.
Uh huh, that's my take on it also. I do the midi bass because it's easy to manipulate in the daw, it sounds decent, and I still get to do some bass playing since bass was my first instrument but can't play anymore from a finger injury. I could use real bass tracks in the future tho cuz it does sound better. Drums are not me, they're midi drum loops. My jam is vibes primary instrument, piano backup, and midi keys bass. This is the bad boy I play the midi bass in on. It goes from E1 to C3 which keeps it in the Sam Jones range, I actually like it.

We had to kick him a bit to make it happen, though

It can only get better

I am a little late to the party. This is one of those tunes that is difficult in its simplicity.
Here is a version of C Jam Blues with the Quartet App as Play-along track.
-
Question, I love your playing. Do you gig much? Are you pro?
-
@joe2758
Yes, I have been making my living playing bass and guitar since 1980, and for the past twenty years or so mostly writing film music.
I wrote part of my story and my motivation for posting here in another thread. Here is the short version:
Due to various reasons I stopped taking paid film music jobs about three years ago and have been trying to get my playing back to the level of where I was twenty or so years ago. I sometimes post videos of my practice sessions here to stay motivated and hopefully help the less experienced players.
There is a link in my forum profile for my film music website if you are interested.

I think I'll sit this thread out lol

Here's mine. I used the Phil Wilkinson "Greasy Jazz Blues in C" sped up a bit. Quite a contrast between this and the classic swing feel of the original. I might try to put together another that's closer to that vibe to try to highlight how the style of groove influences what one might play.

I agree with Ragman1; that bassline is a line a bassplayer would NEVER play; it doesn't sound natural for a bass player. Trust me; I played bass in combo and big band and such basslines I wouldn't play; wouldn't occur to me even. So I guess your basslines are like 'calculated'; theoretically correct, but feeling wise wrong and that's what Ragman1 meant I guess.

That was me responding to kris how he 'can't hear the changes' because they're not explicit enough. Now you're telling me they're too explicit. Which is it?
I outline the changes in the bass line very clearly so it's easy to play to. I also played bass in combo, big band, and orchestra. So leave me alone. Did this forum change its name to Jazz Bass Online?
Why are you not criticizing James's track where YOU CAN'T HEAR THE BASS. Seriously, fuck off. I'm tired of this red herring bs.
Edit: fwiw, I studied bass on upright, electric, AND keys bass on organ with Tony Monaco. Tony taught me to be super clear. So if you say a bassist would NEVER play that then you'd be wrong cuz damn Tony Monaco taught me that way. Double scrub it.Last edited by Strat-itis; 06-13-2026 at 12:27 AM.

^ Yeah I'm not criticizing your clip. I judge a clip by the playing on it, not the backing track.

I played "G Jam Blues" at Trefor's Jazz Guitar club on Thurs night.
I'm on the RHS, the immensely talented local player Andy Hulme is on the LHS.
Most, thought I was having a laugh playing such a simple tune. The reaction was quite funny.
(Warning, no backing tracks were harmed during the making of this video.)

I was bored, to be honest (not with you, Guy).

My experience, when playing "C Jam Blues" live with a Jazz audience, they think it's a Joke.
