ps.
Blues often expresses what kind of soul the person playing has.A good gift for Mr. Strat.

You know I hate to agree with the strat but this sounds quite nice. Vibes playing is lovely.

Theres a little something with the accents in the first chorus where you don’t hear the roots really clearly, but it settles in. Maybe that’s what everyone is on about. Who knows.
I kind of think it sounds great.
are drums you too?

I’m quite impressed with this clip. Well done Strat.

I could use real bass tracks in the future tho cuz it does sound better. Drums are not me, they're midi drum loops. My jam is vibes primary instrument, piano backup, and midi keys bass. This is the bad boy I play the midi bass in on. It goes from E1 to C3 which keeps it in the Sam Jones range, I actually like it.

Question, I love your playing. Do you gig much? Are you pro?

@joe2758
Yes, I have been making my living playing bass and guitar since 1980, and for the past twenty years or so mostly writing film music.
I wrote part of my story and my motivation for posting here in another thread. Here is the short version:
Due to various reasons I stopped taking paid film music jobs about three years ago and have been trying to get my playing back to the level of where I was twenty or so years ago. I sometimes post videos of my practice sessions here to stay motivated and hopefully help the less experienced players.
There is a link in my forum profile for my film music website if you are interested.

I think I'll sit this thread out lol

Very nice. Thanks for sharing.

Trust me; I played bass in combo and big band and such basslines I wouldn't play; wouldn't occur to me even. So I guess your basslines are like 'calculated'; theoretically correct, but feeling wise wrong and that's what Ragman1 meant I guess.

Why are you not criticizing James's track where YOU CAN'T HEAR THE BASS. Seriously, fuck off. I'm tired of this red herring bs.
Edit: fwiw, I studied bass on upright, electric, AND keys bass on organ with Tony Monaco. Tony taught me to be super clear. So if you say a bassist would NEVER play that then you'd be wrong cuz damn Tony Monaco taught me that way. Double scrub it.Last edited by Strat-itis; 06-13-2026 at 12:27 AM.

You can hear the bass on the backing track I use. But I admit your rendition is probably better than mine.

I played "G Jam Blues" at Trefor's Jazz Guitar club on Thurs night.
I'm on the RHS, the immensely talented local player Andy Hulme is on the LHS.
Most, thought I was having a laugh playing such a simple tune. The reaction was quite funny.
(Warning, no backing tracks were harmed during the making of this video.)
-
I was bored, to be honest (not with you, Guy).
-
My experience, when playing "C Jam Blues" live with a Jazz audience, they think it's a Joke.
-
Thats a damn shame...Ellington is never a joke.
-
I think the first repetitive G is supposed to generate a feeling of excitement and expectation. At least, it did when Oscar did it :-)
