Mr. Beaumont,
you should join in.

Yeah the Omnibook doesn't cost a lot.... just buy it guys. Ive only used it briefly but honestly its the best jazz oriented music book Ive EVER bought, as long as you know how to apply it properly.
Im going to try and make jam tracks on BIAB if anyone is interested. Inbox me and Ill try and find a way to get them to you
Also for those who are also doing the Joe Elliott thing.... this is a great way to add licks to your vocabularyThe more the merrier in this group.

You can upload the files here above or send me a PM and I will get you my email address and then I can upload the backing tracks to box.com and then post here in the thread or you can edit the original post and put the link there for an easier to find resource. Thanks for making them and I would like to definately use them.

Today is the day we start!
-
Hey!!! Today we begin with the group!!! How is KC Blues going?
-
Well its going good for me. All the licks are really straight forward until the section in his solo where he rips the 16th note runs. Im having a hard time a) picking them up by ear, and b) figuring out exactly why/how they work. Theres a couple HW dim patters in there (although I guess that could be interpreted as a b9 extension in "bebop" terminology). Anyone have any insight into those runs yet? The rest of this song is fairly simple
-
So I've got a BIAB backing track made. Simple but it works. .SGU file though. Whatever that means lol. Can anyone help me out here?
-
Going good....the 16th section is a little tricky at speed, going to try and post tonite how I'm fingering that section but it will probably be tomorrow more than likely.
-
I fingered that sections A LOT differently than you did. My goal here was to stay in familiar positions.
-
some fingering ideas.... excuse the sloppy timing. Parker seems to push and pull the time at his command. Its very hard to phrase exactly like him. Also some of the notes on the recording are very quiet so theres a few grace notes I'm sure I'm not hitting properly. Extra points to those who figured out where the mistake in the Omnibook was (I found it
)
note: this was done using transcribe at 70% tempo. Also my tone is pretty shit because Im using a Smokey mini-amp, didn't wanna fire up the big boy for living room practice in my apartment at 9:30pm :P

Ok, this is the first part I'm posting. I played freely, so perhaps the tempo is not that accurate, but I'll try and post a few other parts and the full one this week. Also I was thinking to upload a video with the licks I liked the most and perhaps analyze them!

Parts I had problems with was the 9th bar of the second 12 bar form. Its a long d- to G7 lick. Mostly just awkward because the way I fingered it involved a lot of finger rolling, although its the only way to get the legato sound of the sax (that I could find anyways). Ill post the complete solo sometime in the next couple days - I have to work tomorrow and then jam with my band but if I find time in-between Ill do it then.
