I'm currently working on building a vocabulary on the most common chord progressions. I try to integrate licks and not thinking to much for the moment. I learned licks from the Herb Ellis book series for Rhythm Changes progression and for ii V I.

I'm working on "the last 8": A christophe and a II V I like in Django's tiger (D D#dim A7 F# B7 E7 A A).

For this progression in particular, can I use the Herb Ellis book ? I imagine that the Swing Blues licks would fit ? -last 8 bars of the blues seems to be like the progression I'm working on ? On a jazz blues I think it works. Can I use licks for a normal blues (IV7-IV7-I7-I7-V7-IV7-I7-V7) ?

Do you have other recommendation ?
