I agree with Daniel, that part is a little tricky. Made me realize I need to work on reverse sweeps to play it at tempo. Alternate doesn't cut it for me there.

well heres the finished product (sorta :P). Its only at 90% speed and theres a few mistakes - mostly rhythmic. Following Parker is tough but I wanna learn his rhythmic idiosyncrasies, IMHO thats what made him so special. But I filmed this after I got off work from an overnight so gimme a break. This will give everybody an idea of the fingerings I'm using. Please comment!

I just discovered this thread. Can I still join in? Which tune is everyone working on, and is there a due date?
If I'm too far behind on this tune, I'll get in on the next one.
I've spent some time with the Omnibook in the past. There's a tune called 'Perhaps' that's not too difficult to play.
Cheers,
Dana

Daniel89!!! Great job on the tune!!! Congratulations man!!!!
I'll see if I can upload a full video, I still have to deal with those tricky 16th notes, but I'll try to upload it! It's been interesting so far, in a couple of simple licks you get lots of ideas and specially lots of fun! I have to check the fingerings you are using, I am having a hard time with some parts. Which is the next song we are going to be working on?

Dana you can definitely join in now
- seems that most of the people who "committed" have backed out now. Next we'll be working on Moose the Mooch...

and PatWh thanks for the compliment.... I wish I could get it down a little better but Im still a little new to this whole transcribing business. I come from a mostly classical and rock background.
On a side note I completely recommend learning by ear and if necessary the program "Transcribe!" to figure out fast/difficult passages

Great job Daniel, I've been so busy with work and other things I haven't I had a chance to get back on it. Gonna try and get on it tonite and finish.

Its an excellent guitar - but I still want the Wildwood thin-skin '62 reissue. Beauty guitars.
Also there isn't a particular "due date" or set time for tunes - but I think two weeks is appropriate. None of the tunes are too hard really I don't think. If we decide as a group to add an extra week here and there thats not a big deal. My ultimate goal for the summer was to get through 6 tunes from May - August. So if its 6 tunes over 16 weeks thats a little over two weeks a tune but not quite three....

Last night I bought and downloaded Moose the Mooche from iTunes. I put a loop of it on my iPhone and listened to it while driving to and from work. By the time I got home I noticed I was starting to be able to sing a long with part of it, especially the last chorus of the solo.
I spent about a half hour practicing it last night. Some tricky fingerings!
I'm giving myself a due date of May 30. If I don't have a due date set I'll be lazy and slack off.

I think I could agree to a "due date" of the 30th. Sounds good to me. Ill try and get a recording of this bad daddy too sooner than later. I already had to crack the Omnibook to look at that super fast descending arpeggio in the intro. I think this one will yield some deadly ii-V's. Does anyone know of any Omnibook-transcribed Parker tunes that have two bar ii-Vs and half-dim ii - Vb9 licks? I wouldn't mind subbing one of the tunes for one with long ii-v's. It seems they pop up in a lot of standards so they are probably useful to have

I've played transcriptions out of my omnibook in bass clef for a years on electric bass but being fairly new in the scheme of things to guitar never really tried them on guitar. This group sounds like the push I need to start learning at least some heads.
This spotify playlist by Mike Outram might come in handy:

Hellooooo!!!! Have you started with Moose the Mooche or we are still working with KC Blues? You wanted to know! Hope you started this week nicely!
-
Hey, I'd like to hop on!
I might substitute some of my own tune choices for some of the assignments. If you'd rather I don't post those in this thread I understand, don't want to derail the study group.
I've always been fond of Parker's Night in Tunisia solo. In terms of tunes that emphasize certain chord progressions or skills that are common I think that is one. The A section is a Dm-Eb7 kinda deal changing every bar. I feel like when this progression occurs (or when one tries to 'side-slip') it is difficult to get over the 'obviously sounding like I am just moving up a fret' sound. In general for that progression I think it would be a good solo to transcribe, and if you were to play the lines over a static one chord vamp you'd get some good outside stuff being as side-slipping is a common outside playing tactic.
I shall get started on Moose the Mooch :O!

I've started with Moose - but Ive only got the head down so far... Ive been really busy with band commitments and recording the last week but starting tomorrow I should be able to focus full time on Moose again.
