Not only did they qualify, they did so with three GREAT goals…and great commentary:

    No party without Scottish fans!

Would love to go to a game but the prices are insane, like most big sporting events. What it costs for two tickets i can buy a high quality archtop.

The organisation has been far from perfect. Massive crowd for the opening game tonight, though, Mexico v. South Africa. The home draw for Mexico helped.

I don't know who to support in this world cup. I'm Russian American, but Russia is not there, and I can't bring myself supporting US becaue Americans don't give a crap about football. Ukraine is also not there, I would support them. Is it ok to pretend I'm English and support England? I love the football culture there and always felt deep connection, also I'm a Chelsea fan.

No, Hep, that’s not allowed. The Rules say that if you are unsure, you MUST support Scotland. That’s just the way it is.

Seriously, most pundits are choosing France, Spain or England, in that order.

Mexico and Canada aside, this tournament has already been dubbed “The Most Unwelcoming World Cup Ever”, which is a shame. But if people in the US are not into it, they are not into it. It’s not their fault, and maybe the country should not have been chosen as a host. Mexico so far - two games - has done a fantastic job, and the stadiums have been packed. It was great to see so many South Koreans make the trip.

With Italy not qualified for the third time in a row I'll have a lot more time for guitar, rather than watching football matches on TV . I'll probabily watch the semi-finals and the final (hmm... I did watch Mexico-South Africa ). By and large, I think I'll be supporting teams that have been in world cup finals (like Holland: three times, or Croatia: once) yet have not won a world cup, so far. Or, maybe, an emerging, talented team that has never won a world cup (Norway? Morocco? Japan?).

Scotland is cool with me, but there is not much connection apart from visting Edinburgh and Glasgow for a day some 20 years ago. I have good memories, nice places, the climate is wee bit unpleasant thou. Me mom lived in London for many years and she took me around.

Yea the world cup in US is like hockey championship in Brasil, not ideal country for that. But Mexico is proper passionate about it.

Yes, what has happened to Italy? We miss them.

Japan have been doing well. I’ll be keeping an eye on them.

I don't know... in need of a lesson in humility, a wake up call. Inconsistency, I suppose (from winning the European championship to not qualifying for WC). Oh well...

The Gods of football are still pissed about that nasty Materazzi trick in 2006 final.

Why would you do this to yourself?

There will be penalties, and we will lose on them.

    Spain

The Spanish have revolutionised the game, with their sublime control and passing.

But, in recent years, every team has tried to stifle this beautiful Spanish game.

I love their defender with the long hair. Forget his name. Always entertaining.

Cmon mate, a bit of positive thinking is in order don't you think?

Nah you're right you will lose on penalties, it's an old English tradition.

You only have to see them once to become a fan. I’ve always been very impressed by the fans and the team, even when they didn’t stand a chance

Yes, the Scots fans are great, but I think the Dutch might even be crazier:

Dutch party? An unreal atmosphere of Dutch fans before the game. #euro2024 #dutch #youtubeshorts - YouTube

This is a marginally more likely outcome than England beating Germany in the final on penalties.

First look at Canada's team tonight, against Bosnia-Herzegovina. I've no idea how that one will go. I'll be looking to see how another host nation does for crowd attendance, and general vibe. Hard to beat Mexico.
