Good question, here in the U.S. we have an administration feeding the flames, promoting the the fossil fuel industry while discouraging green energy technologies, it's sheer madness. Never mind walking on water, better learn fire walking, you may need it.

Which was built on the back of then-current Judaism, so some of the old testament still applies (like the Ten Commandments). Jefferson made his own bible, known as the Jefferson Bible, which had nothing BUT the actual words of Christ. I don't think it has to be that specific, as there is alot of very relative teachings in the rest of the Bible.

But I digress... using Christianity as an example, the original truth are the teachings of Jesus. Not necessarily what your bishop has to say about it. Or the pope. And there so are so many versions of the Christian bible now...protestants saw to that quite thoroughly- there's no way man hasn't tampered with it, or rendered a poor translation from the original

So you may ask "well, but then what about xxxx religion?" Technically, as a Christian, you would have to declare them void. Because you MUST believe that to be a Christian. You can't be a Christian and believe some Hindu god is also valid. Judaism was the "original truth" which was superseded by Christianity.
-this is quite oversimplified; but it does not mean I see other religions as "bad" by default. Belief systems that bring good, bring good. But to religious people (people who believe in a "higher power", whatever that may be), a belief system does not rise to the level of divine.-

-and I'm only using Christianity because I am a Christian. A stoic Taoist Christian, but a Christian lol-

Getting into the Dead Sea scrolls, books removed from the Bible, the Ethiopian texts which are likely the ONLY COMPLETE New Testament texts in the entire world... all that is another very long thread.

Not sure if I answered your question, but I tried. I feel my answer was overly simplistic, but it's really more of a discussion than a forum post.
what impertinence to think that we would be eternal- we,coming the last in the Darwinian line- when all life comes from the first primordial cell

The fossil fuel industry controls green tech too.

. Yeah, but how many of these viewers actually watched my musical offering? And even if they click, do they hang for more than 15 seconds?

Actually, data is the plural term for datum. It's data are data.

I never get it right either.

Nah, I'm using data as a singular noun. Not the plural of the data points. The best part about pedantic people is when they are actually wrong.

He was. But he also had unbreakable rules, right and wrong, which is pretty much the opposite of today's "woke."

Not sure. Imagine if he tweeted this today:

    Luke 17:7-10
7 “Who among you would say to your slave who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field, ‘Come here at once and take your place at the table’? 8 Would you not rather say to him, ‘Prepare supper for me, put on your apron and serve me while I eat and drink; later you may eat and drink’? 9 Do you thank the slave for doing what was commanded? 10 So you also, when you have done all that you were ordered to do, say, ‘We are worthless slaves; we have done only what we ought to have done!’”

Jesus Christ is my Lord, the Son of God. Christ taught selflessness, empathy, and compassion for others. As Christ taught, the two most important commandments are to love God with all your heart and soul above all others and to love thy neighbor as thou love thyself.
God doesn’t cause the bad things to happen in this world, mankind brings it on themselves. God gave man free will and what man does with it is what causes the evil of this world.
God isn’t an absentee landlord either. He is very much present in all His creation. God gave His only begotten Son to save all mankind because mankind cannot save itself.
When it comes to the Books of the Holy Bible and if they are right, wrong,God’s Word, or man’s, the answer is faith. In my past when I questioned God’s existence, I often questioned how could we trust the Holy Bible as God’s Word. A wise person of many decades who had led an eventful life gave me the answer: you have to have faith.
There are many paths one can take in this life. Only one will set you free. The Truth, Jesus Christ.

So basically someone said, trust me bro, Bible is God's word and that was good enough for you.
Well at least you are not pretending that anything you say has any contact with reality.

Our discussion had run it's course and you were turning the corner into belittlement anyways so I bounced cause I had better things to do. I was trying to keep the peace, now you are addressing a member in open mockery who did what exactly to you?

I did not intend to mock anyone. That's literally what he said. What does any of that even mean? That line of logic is not serious a position. Not sure why would anyone insert that in a debate.

It amazes me that we can have this conversation here without anyone losing it. I know of no other place we can have this. I hope it can continue. Thanks for all the thoughtful input.
    Thanks john

Faith and logic are two separate things and that member was offering his experiences, not trying to debate you.

This thread exemplifies that peace, while aspirational, will never happen because humans are programmed to quarrel.

Mr. Spock and Mr. Data would both find some of the ideas presented as being illogical. And that may well include some of mine.

I think disagreements are healthy and don’t contradict peaceful coexistence.

I been putting in 5 hours a day preparing for a couple important (to me) gigs and a radio show. I have to do something besides play more guitar or my hand will start giving me trouble. I had two hours in before I even got on here this morning. I think I might do one more hour tonight and call it good just because I'm riding that edge right now. The wet weather ain't helping it. In other news my wife's thinline tele showed up today, LOL.

That’s exactly what you’d predict. But those beliefs no longer have explanatory utility. As if secularists have a monopoly on empiricism. How does nothingness create and maintain the universe again?
