409 songs reference the Gulf of Mexico.

Folks here ignore that other jive appellation.

Jazz isn’t dying. It is simply no longer mainstream. The audience and talent pool are still strong, and in many ways stronger than before, but paid gigs and venues have decreased. Jazz continues to survive as a niche art form rather than a mass-market genre, and this has been the case for decades.

I’m actually pretty optimistic about jazz’s outlook going forward. It’s the rest of music I’m worried about.

I'm very optimistic too, I see UK Jazz as a hobby, with dedicated, very passionate, enthusiastic amateurs keeping UK Jazz alive.

Very similar to UK model railway enthusiasts. It's mostly old blokes, just enjoying their hobbies. (But, for some hobbies you need a big shed.)

Do amateurs make money from jazz?

I don't see any jazz or even blues activity, young or old, where I'm based. Unless you want to play metal or indie, you're out of luck.
