I only open my mouth when I've had a similar trouble and solved it.. at least somewhat.
That doesn't mean it would be the best advice though.
Here are quite a few people who's advice is excellent.
I don't recall a bad advice, perhaps hm.. a little lacking of alternatives sometimes.
There are many good tips for learning music stuff and the traditional advice always prevails here. Not saying it's bad at all.
Now thinking about it.. I am being unfair - usually the beginners or a bit more experienced ask about the basics and of course, there is
a generic well-proven way to attack those issues.

There are certain pieces of advice that come across as being wholesome and full of wisdom, like "don't work on ii-V-I's just learn tunes", or "scales don't make music", etc. There is a certain power to such statements. They instantly create a credible alternative reality. They paint a story where the mainstream music education that is represented in music books, online sources and schools make things senselessly complex because they are trying to sell you something and you need to go the source. A student who has been working on jazz for a while may read such advice and feel enlightened. It may also be just what they wanted to hear in a moment of frustration.
The problem with such statements is that they do have points of traction with reality but they imply a way of connecting these dots that may lack nuance and complexity. So, it's good to maintain a heathy degree of skepticism towards anything you read here (especially this post).Last edited by Tal_175; 11-27-2025 at 11:56 AM.

Hobby players seem to be constantly jumping to the next thing, without finishing the last thing.
It takes me more than a month of concentrated practice to really get into a single subject.
I find that learning Jazz guitar is slow process over a long, long, long time.
Maybe, there's too much advice on the forum.

I come here almost exclusively for the forums in the Gear area. Everything else is a joke.
I think there are a few people that give some descent advice but almost everything else is garbage; pedantic know-it-alls who know nothing.
The Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias where people with low ability in a specific area overestimate their own competence, while experts tend to underestimate theirs. This happens because people lacking expertise lack the metacognitive ability to recognize their own shortcomings, leading to a false sense of superiority. Conversely, those with high competence may assume tasks are easy for everyone, leading them to underestimate their skills.

The kids would have something to say about this

Keep your passive-aggression in the gear section, please.
