I was NOT going to comment on this, but looking at the thumbnail...did he put a matching toupee on Wagner? If so that is A+++++ thumbnailing

Here is a good example of the sort of thing that reinforces that this approach is good. The phrasing here was so unnatural to me my teacher had to demonstrate it to me. Lesson is my natural ear for phrases without practicing these cadences specifically wouldn't feel right.

I decided to leave out all embellishments and stick to the point.

In my "free playing" I actually am using 6th diminished moves, but above the static bass. Glad to see it not go to waste. Those half dimished notes half 6t chord notes chords are gold.

It turns out dominant chords over a tonic bass is idiomatic. As opposed to before when bass movement was part of the main goal of using the 6th dim scale.

Also, I keep saying "chords" but I am definitely primarily thinking about intervals and voiceleading

So going back to Sor etudes is very interesting after studying rule of the octave.

They are lessons in harmony, but that's not clear until you know what he's doing. Then you understand what he's doing, and he's still a genius how he works IN that framework.

I knew I picked a good "master" to study, but I had no idea how nicely this is all coming together.

I'm basically going through and playing them as though they were a partimento.

As it turns out, that's also a really good way to find good fingerings

Edit: Unfortunately I need to revamp my technique. Annoying as I'm focusing on something else.

To put it simply my right hand goes back to its old position when I used "a" finger and nails. My attack way to heavy in the way that I would have played with nails.

Left hand simply presses too hard.

It will slow me down, but I'm more and more seeing how important it is.

Here I'm doing modulation exercises. When I get into my later style I'll be using these all the time standardly, so they need to really be second nature. They are starting to be, but I still need to think about the voice leading at this point.
