Look I was talking rubbishy above. Joseph Alexander suggest trying in bar 6 of a blues a dismissed based on the flat 5 so in a Bb blues Fb (being E) dim over Eb.

over the F7 in bar 10 f augmented. Too much info for me.

i will comb through the above and work on bar6.

    thanks

"Help! He's tied her to the railroad track and there's a train coming!!"

LOL. That was exactly my first diminished chord lesson years ago. Teacher played em up the neck and said " you hear this during the scary part of the movie"!

I wish someone would let me know what Peter Bernstein has to say about Jordan !! Why is it being held back from us ? Something of such great import needs to be made public ! .......

Hey sorry you're having such a hard time with seeing different parts of the forum Mark. You might want to mention this to the moderators, as they're more likely to be able to help than anyone else.

I didn't mean to make you sit and wait all day. I was in Brooklyn mixing my next record. I was a little worried about it, since it's a 9-piece ensemble and the first time I've recorded past a quartet. Not sure why I was so stressed though. My engineer is sick. He just finished mixing MMW upcoming record which was the trio plus a 20 piece, new music orchestra (which sounds phenomenal!)... and he recently recorded Scofield, Lovano, and Ron Carter. So I should have had more faith. I know now. If anyone needs a great, passionate, energetic engineer to record or mix anything, I can't recommend him enough. (Wait... are we allowed to say nice things about other people on this forum still?) PM me.

Anyways... mixing went well. Just got home and saw you were having issues. Looks like you already fell asleep Mark, but I'll leave the unabridged quote here for you for when you wake up since you asked. Enjoy.

"Jordan Klemons is a great guitarist with unlimited potential. His prodigious technique is never an end in itself but instead the means to musical expression. He has a great melodic imagination as well as a strong rhythmic approach. He is a musician who looks to the past for inspiration and influence yet has a modern conception; he is someone to look out and listen for!"
    -Pete

Not sure why you weren't able to see it in my signature. Hope that helps.

    So.... diminished chords, right?

MarkinLA I don't think you need Peter to relay his respect for Jordan.

I can tell you he is one cool dude. Another exciting new voice in Jazz and like so many of his peers a gentleman and full of giving back and helping us wanna be's.

Best of luck with your record Jordan. I look forward to hearing it.

I cant be arsed to check through the list of posts to see how OT this thread has become, but with reference to the original question, this is the type of question that is best answered by learning more tunes.

That's a lot better than being spoonfed some sort of textbook answer in all sorts of ways.

Diminished chords used to confuse me, and this is how I have come to an understanding with them.... Swing era tunes and Jobim stuff is particularly good. Also Cole Porter.

Dim7's went a bit out of fashion in the 50's to my ears.

Hey one insight that "only" took me about a million years to figure out is the Diminished Major 7 chord( Ab B D G) is also E dom 7 #9 without on an E.... That's all I got my big revelation. And yeah everybody be cool to Jordan, he is cool and damn if I wouldn't want the whole world to know that Peter Bernstein said I could play. Kudos Jordan, go get 'em.

That's very kind of you all, thank you.

Triple G... I may have to switch out Pete's quote for what you just wrote!

I do agree with you Christian that learning tunes is usually the best (or at least a great) way to learn new concepts. Though I must admit, I'm the type of person that ALSO likes to break things down into small elements and put those elements under the microscope to work on in isolation. It helps me find new things that I probably would miss if I were only playing tunes... and my favorite thing to do is to work on something in isolation, and then consciously bring it to a tune and apply it. I think that's just the way I'm wired.

I was being facetious ! I just meant the opposite of what was clearly being repeated 5-6 times in the thread ! It's the same humor as when, say, "Quando Quando Quando Quando ?" is playing and a guy says "Hey, what's the name of that tune ? !! "

It's his signature. I don't know about you, but I usually read peoples signature once and then just skip the text when it pops up again However each new member or guest gets to read it then regardless of what the topic at hand is. Neat, right?
