Do (Ut) Re Mi Fa Sol Re Mi Do

This might seem completely bonkers to the modern mind, but that's how they did it right up to the 19th century - basically by having three 6 note scales (hexachords) that started on Do, Sol, and Fa. In the example above we use a hexachord on Do and one on Sol to get the full scale.
Si appears in the 17th Century.

    Sure

Gjerdingen talks about the old system at some length in 'Music in Gallant Style' - he says that it was still in use in the 18th century.

Alternatively, do you want a fight about it? :-)

No, but I learnt a thing I didn't know (do I forget it ? Impossible, I've got a huge memory), or didn't read or listen when I was student.

Anyway, I've decided to go forward with just one word. I thought about combining them so it would be "DiRa" etc. -- but no.

Mostly I'm using the "flat" forms, just 2 sharps. So it was:

Do Ra Re Me Mi Fa Fi So Si La Te Ti Do

but then after I said "Me Mi" fast a few times, that wasn't good. So one "combo" form returned: MeRi MeRi Mi is better.

ps Sol, not So? oh well.

This strikes me as really funny, in light of your basically giving the finger to the standard chromatic syllables. Are you serious?

You can change everything else, but don't mess with that L on sol. :-)
