Thanks guys. Have to be careful with the reverb as it is more noticeable out front than it is to the player.

The guitar is nice...put normal tensions on today, nice upgrade in feel for me. Intonation is great and guitar plays well and sounds good even without the electronics. Looks like a winner.

Yamaha really does make the best inexpensive guitars on the planet. Anyway, my plan is to do "17" again tomorrow with this guitar, if the strings have settled in enough.

    Haply New Year!

Hold (but don't hold your breath) for a vid of me playing my arrangement of this, with some blowing.

Finally figured out how to do a FB quickie vid. Duh.

(And did you hear? Lucky Lindy made it)...

Sound was too low, but no apologies:

Is that link followable? Never done this before. (I could open it cuz my account is open).

And is there a way to get the actual vid up here w/o the extra step of posting a link? Never done that before either.

But I promise I'll be a junkie soon enough...

Link works for me-- sounds very cool. I like the "darkness" in those chords.

Whattya expect from a Yid? Ralphie LaLama called me a 'dark Jew'. Who am I to disagree?

But seriously, ladies and Germans: How do you post direct to site?

German here: You mean like this?

Edit: Somehow it is not really working properly with FB videos.

I like the concept of blowing on vamps only when the song has a lot of changes.Unless you're a genius you might wear people's ears out trying to command their attention for 5-10 minutes with the same changes and groove.

Some other ways to get around that:

    1. change the rhythmic feel from solo to solo, or within the form itself. Long as it doesn't come off as a gimmick it really works.

    2. Maybe 1 or 2 players solos on the vamp then 1 on the form. That way there's contrast, plus each new approach will sound fresher.

    3. If you're the leader, and I saw Thad Jones do this more than once, make up little send-offs or ensemble things under a soloist, and sing it to the band to play on the next chorus. If he could do it with a big band it's easier and more 'wieldy' with, say, a quintet.

    Just off the top...

Nice rendition Joel. I'm a Luddite and you handled our dark technological overlords with aplomb.

There is an "insert video" button in the toolbar (where you like to change the font size), second row, second from right. I entered your video's URL there. But the size is not yet OK and I cannot get rid of the cookie dialogue.

Don't quite get it. What 2nd row? Where? All I see on my laptop are the pages that are open...

It is getting a healthy FB response. I'm hoping this maiden effort can be slowly, surely piggybacked into a successful YouTube channel...

Hope I didn't go too far with 'Germans'. I stole that from Mel Brooks.

And to paraphrase a line from the original The Producers:

'Humor me. I think I'm witty'...

I am German. Not proud of it and not ashamed of it, simply a fact -- born here. Did you find the "insert video" button, witty Yid?

German American here. Well, Polish and German. Anyway, I was not offended.

I have a shirt that says "You can always tell a German, but you can't tell them much."

The 1st time I went to Holland I stayed in a house rented by several conservatory students and the primary tenant was a German singer. She was together! Students all day long, healthily hustling her CDs, making nice to the profs at the conservatory in the hopes of getting a teaching gig (which she did get BTW).

I was speaking admiringly of her to a mutual friend.

He: 'Of course! She's a German!'

At 5"2' and shrinking there's hardly anyone 'littler'.

And I thought that, per Leona Helmsley, 'only the little people pay taxes'. What's it worth to ya not to rat me out to the IRS?

My proverbial German industriousness is finito for today. I tried to research how to better embed a facebook video on this forum but all I managed to achieve was this:

    HTML Code:
    <iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?height=420&href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fjoel.fass%2Fvideos%2F1317061545677691%2F&show_text=false&width=560&t=0" width="560" height="420" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" allow="autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowFullScreen="true"></iframe>
Tomorrow is another day. Layla tov!
