    Hi,

I would love to learn to play Angel eyes, the way Jimmy foster plays it on his 7 string.
Is there anybody who nows if this available on 7 string TAB?
Or is there anybody who can put it on Tab?

    Thanks,

    James

James - I have transcriptions of Angel Eyes and I could help refine a version by the late Jimmy Foster, whom I admired. He does a great version in the key of Am, though not my preferred key. But the problem for me is the issue of tab. The whole process of creating a transcription is much more efficient if using standard notation. Tab explodes what is a one or two page transcription into a bloated mess in my opinion.

    Hi Jay,

Sounds great, will that be for 7 string?, I have a program That copies the standard notation into Tab, So yes if you would do that it would be fantastic, Are you referring to the Youtube video Jimmy Foster is playing Angel eyes?

Hey, James! Actually, the transcription I did originally I scored in Bm for a normal six string guitar, as it was a comfortable "lounge" tenor range for vocals. The late Jimmy Foster's recordings of Angel Eyes in his YT videos were done as a demonstration of the advantages of playing a seven-string guitar and are found in at least two if not three of the videos. Because they were shot with two similar appearing guitars, it is a bit hard to differentiate the videos. In the first one he alters the tuning of a six string to show what it would feel like on a regular guitar. Jimmy's seventh string is usually a low A. So to replicate the feeling, Jimmy detuned the six string as follows from the sixth to first: A-E-D-G-B-E. Note that the normal A fifth string is now tuned lower to E. And he plays the tune in the key of Am.

So my transcription is my version, but I can transpose it from Bm to Am easily. You could then alter it to more closely mimic Jimmy's version. Not sure I would recommend the demo version of the altered six string tuning I mentioned Jimmy plays above. On a different video he plays the same tune on one of his lovely seven string archtops, and that is the version I would check out. I'm assuming you have a seven string, or that you want to try his altered six string tuning. Or, lacking a seven string guitar, you could just play off my version. A few misspelled lyrics, too.

So if you like, I could e-mail you my version in Bm or Am, but it is not the exact replica of Jimmy's.

Ciao, James! I'm going to transpose the arrangement in Sibelius to Am and try to send an attachment to you with the e-mail. If you don't get the transcription properly, let me know. Remember this is my arrangement and not note-for-note Jimmy Foster's, but should give you a good foundation. I think Jimmy put up three vids in a row on his YT site playing Angel Eyes, two with his 'six-string', and the last with the seven.

Jimmy played many of his arrangements in A and D, probably because they lend themselves to seven-string well.

James - do you have access to Sibelius? I think I sent a copy of the actual Sibelius file, rather than a copy of the printed out arrangement. If not, I'll try later to scan a print copy into my computer and try to attach that.
If you have access to Sibelius, I think you can hear the arrangement as well as print it out. All the better, I think.

Maybe somebody with more tech chops than me can suggest how to send the print copy. I'm assuming I would just scan it into the computer.

Hi Jay I don't have Sibelius , I tried to open it but there are no programs on my
    Mac that support that.

    Thank,

    James

james - i had to get to work, but this evening I will try to scan in the sheet music copy and attach that. I just did not have time this morning. I know that has worked in the past. In effect I sent you the midi file, I think. I suspect if you had Sibelius, the file would open right in the program. But I can send a scanned copy of the sheet music I create from the midi file. It just won't play itself!

Don't despair - it will get there.... Jay
