Oh, of course. I just mean samba isn't as guitar centric. Bossa, while it can be played without a guitar, is one of those "made for guitar" musics...

Btw, this is a song called Rio which Nelson Faria (player on the left in the video) wrote. There is a chart and some performance notes in his book Inside the Brazilian Rhythm section. Excellent book, as is his Brazilian Guitar Styles.

Nelson has a show he does that you can see on youtube. He has guests come over, sit in his kitchen and play. He's had some giants of Brazilian music. In this video the man on the right is Romero Lubambo who plays in Trio Da Paz among other settings - another brilliant musician.

Here's my favorite of Nelson's studio tracks, with his band Tres. Most of what you're hearing is the bass, and, yes, he could do that live.

Other than João I love Caetano Veloso's way with bossa nova and his feel on the guitar, unfortunately not documented enough on recordings, as he's an excellent guitarist. He can play traditional like João, but will also bossaify jazz and pop songs. For instance I remember an incredible performance of Stars Fell on Alabama at Carnegie Hall. I wish he made a coherent full bossa album. There's a compilation album titled A Bossa de Caetano which is uneven but has a few gems.
Other than Voz e Violão another João album worth having is Live in Tokyo. I had another excellent one which I unfortunately lost, and can't find what the title was.

I started looking at the tune "More" this week. Although I did not find examples of it being played as a Bossa, it certainly seems to work as one. There's a lot of odd numbered bars where the first melody note is a dotted half note.

A quick search of my collection produced a couple of instances of the tune "More":

    Bireli Lagrene - "Storyteller"

Laurindo Almeida - "It's a Bossa Nova World"

    Pat Martino - "Silken Soul"

Charlie Byrd - "At the Village Gate"
