Contenders?

None of em, if they're done interestingly.
But if I never had to hear a singer add 6 syllables to the word "Summertime" again I'd be fine.
-
My duo will only do these by request wrapped in at least a $50:
ATTYA
Blue Bossa
Autumn Leaves
-
I was pretty against Autumn Leaves, but I got over it.
The only standard I’m not for is Stella. It just doesn’t grab me. But if the guys in my band wanted to play it I would.
-
That's funny, it's my favorite tune.

Yeah none of them.
I mean I play Stella every day. Still not bored with it.
Coltrane must have performed My Favorite Things hundreds of times. If you really like a tune you can do that.
-
Thats actually how I feel, exactly.

I'm about 80% sure of that. I hope I didn't misrepresent his point by my paraphrasing

Some of the most popular Jazz standards are the best. IMHO.
-
Stolen Moments, but only because our local jazz station plays it three times a day everyday (or so it seems). And I could do without yet another jazzed-up Jingle Bells or Rudolph at this time of year.
-
It could have been Girl From Ipanema, but there are some great arrangements of that tune that are fun to hear and play.
One is Trio Corrente's version.
-
Joe/James, anyone really.
What’s your favorite version of Stella?
-
I look forward to jazzing up Xmas tunes each year.

Okay, I’m going to be honest. I need to prepare myself to go into this with an open mind. That’s a trifecta of personal bias for me.

Any time I hear the first three notes and it turns into Misty and not Ebb Tide I wanna punch the musician in the face. I hate that song. Ebb Tide 4 evah! Thanks for listening.
And though it's not a jazz standard, while we are at, it I'd like to do the same to anyone playing Cissy Strut.

Years ago, I saw a great triple bill concert.

As cutting edge and beautiful as Alice and Pharoah's sets were, it was Rahsaan that stood out to me as the most original.
He song list was largely comprised of what I thought of as hookey standards and pop songs of the day. It was not the song
but the musician that made the difference. This experience dragged me firmly into Mr. B's line of thinking.

Killer solos by Chris flory and Ed cherry. They did 3 gigs together in 2023 and I always go back to these when I want to get inspired.

There are some standards that I just hate because I find them annoying (won’t say which). But I don’t get tired of standards because every time I hear them I hear something new. That’s the whole idea of jazz no?
