I've been practicing this piece-meal, one scale or ii-V-I at a time, for a little while. This is one of my first attempts to put it together and actually improvise my way through the tune. I guess it goes without saying that all the fancy ideas I've been practicing over individual chords or short progressions went out the window

that's a wonderful tune for so many learning goals. Chord-melody arranging, for example, is fun for this tune because so many possibilities exist. Chordal improvisation also is fun, and of course, the changes present some really fun and at times, tricky moments for the melodic improviser. you've made a solid start on it.

Thanks! I must say, listening back today I'm not so happy with it. Truth be told, this is not the first time I've tried this tune. The best I can say is this version is way better than what I managed three years ago

There problem with "Misty" is that it's so frequently played, it's almost considered corny or over-played. But on the other hand, for a straight-up AABA 32 bar warhorse standard, it has some really interesting chord changes. I am constantly fascinated by this tune.

You might want to use a backing track in which the piano players comping is not so busy, it's a bit distracting.
