Now that I've seen a lead sheet, I find that I double-timed the melody, so it would be easier to mesh this with Groovin High at it's correct tempo.

a progress report. I didn't know either of them before this. I'm further along with Groovin' High; pretty good tempo, but I still trip over things and forget what's next. I should have played it slower but consistently.
Miss Ann is at a very slow tempo, but at least I can play it at a constant rhythm. It's under my fingers and I just have to work on it every day for a while. Each day will be a bit faster. I love my metronome, we're gonna be spending some time together.

About as fast as I can play this right now with decent phrasing. Excuse the rock guitar tone, recorded directly from a small tube amp to my zoom unit -- Miss Ann & Mick date #2 - Box.com

Miss Ann at 133bpm. I got it up to 140 but I wasn't playing it cleanly.

It's not supposed to be a lullaby, ragman. It's funny, I just noticed that Herb Ellis bears a strong resemblance to Barney Rubble, maybe it's ancestral?

Miss Ann is probably the worst contrafact I've ever heard. Just sounds like random notes.
Lol!

Supersoul, You played the last section an octave higher, does Dolphy do that? I missed that, will listen to his take again.
P.S. - To answer my own question, he does not play the last part 8va in his Last Date recording (on YouTube) -- Groovin’ High
-
He also does it an octave lower on the Far Cry album.

the version on Far Cry is about 240bpm.

None of my guitars have great access at the upper frets - 14th-15th fret and higher. Well, my old super-strat does but I don't play it much. Even just one whole step lower would be easier for me.

If anyone is interested, here is a transcription of this live version.

I only wrote the main melody in my chart so that it can be used as a head chart. This version has many more of the Be-Bop triplet ornaments.Last edited by Question; 05-09-2025 at 04:39 AM.
