True. I loved his educational books - well-thought out and clear - but the only thing that stoped me really getting into his music was the chorus sound that plagued a lot of guitarists from that era. I really can’t listen to the two albums I bought many years go. But at the same time I rate him very highly as a player and musician.

I have come to appreciate Steve Khan. I first heard him playing acoustic guitar duets with Larry Coryell and these recordings were released right after Coryell made acoustic guitar duets with Philip Catherine. At that time Khan just wasn't at the level of Coryell (who was still rough around the edges), and clearly not in the same league as Catherine.

Khan continued to improve, and I really dig his playing now. (Coryell did also once he started making albums for Concord Records).

Nicest guy ever. I reached out to him once about one of his compositions and his reply was to ask for my address so he could send me the lead sheets.

I would say that Steve's Eyewitness band has heavily influenced my bass player and me. The conception of that trio/quartet is still with me and I love the composition. Saw Steve in Germany with the last installment of that band with Dennis chambers on drums and Anthony Jackson on bass - one the best concerts I've seen.

His website is loaded with over 100 transcriptions that include the heads, solos, and analysis.
I used his Wes transcriptions for a big band arrangement I wrote of a medley of Wes tunes.
He writes out the bass line to every tune also. I think he wrote a book of Wes transcriptions.
All the transcriptions are hand written, and I found his handwriting difficult to read.

I bought one of his CDs though, and I couldn't stand it. Some fusion stuff with a lot of f/x like Rob said.

Steve Khan, on those Eyewitness albums of 90s-2000s pretty much re-invented himself with a unique sound, phrasing, harmonic content....no one sounded like him & vice versa. Pretty hard to do!! Also, the sound quality of those CDs is just beautiful.
I saw him live much earlier, in the 70s, in a jazz-rock band with Don Grolnick, Steve Marcus, Will Lee & Steve Gadd (ie, monster players). They rocked it. During the break, he talked to me & my brother (teenagers) for like a half hour. Incredibly nice guy!
The way he ends this tune (written by his father, btw)- say 6:30-end, if you're rushed- is one of the most beautiful guitar endings I've heard.

I always enjoyed scrolling around Steve’s website and this thread sent me back. Looks like he has made some Spotify playlists of music he likes. As usual Steve is very thorough in explaining the background. Cool. Thanks Steve!
