    Hi gang.

Just bought Jimmy Raney's album, The Master.
    Loving it!
    I can't believe I haven't been listening to him!

Can anyone recommend other Raney albums.
I'd love to hear his whole discography, but financially... not gonna happen!

    Cheers, Ron

Seriously, thanks. I shall investigate everything as the budget permits.
Until then, I've got some serious transcribing to do!

Ed has been my guitar idol for years.
I got to see him play live, dozens of times.

I live about 30 minutes from Louisville now. It's just too bad I didn't come here a lot sooner before Jimmy passed. The music shop I get my TI strings from was the guy that did Jimmy's setups and repair work. At last I found a guitar store that caters to jazz and not in a small way.

But Beautiful ... All the live stuff w/ Stan Getz. If you really want to treat yourself, save the price of a few CDs and spring for the playalong and transcriptions he put out for Jamey Aebersold.

I think you can benefit from listening to any of Jimmys' recordings. I probably have most of them plus a few others not listed here. Like many other great players, he started by learning a lot of Charley Parkers' solos. He was truly the "master of melody" evidenced by his never ending supply of good melodic content in his solos. His son, Doug Raney, is also an excellent guitarist and his albums reflect much of his fathers' influence.

First, thanks for all the suggestions. I shall be investigating all of them.
Second, for those who haven't seen it, forum member, voxss, just posted a thesis on Jimmy Raney that includes quite a few transcriptions!
    GOLD!!!!
    Thanks again!
