Have any of you guys checked him out?!
I have never heard someone play a guitar like that, his technique seems flawless and I have no idea what he is doing in some of his lines, lots of different harmonies and melodies at the same time during his solos, correct me if I'm wrong I think that's called contrary motion?!
Definitely worth looking up on YouTube, there's an amazing video of him playing a duet with his bass player and another good one of him playing a solo version of autumn leaves. I wish I had this guys chops!

Lage is great.
Julian Lage First Etude Transcription
-
If I'm not mistaken, he also has a series of etudes he's created... a friend showed me, they seemed pretty intense (I'm not 100% certain they were Lage)
-
Definitely falls under the category of "prodigy." Was performing jazz at a very young age.
-
This cat has really become one of my favorites in the past year or so...I love watching him in videos...always looks like he's having the time of his life...if that ain't what it's all about, I don't know...
-
Definitly one of my favourite guitarplayers! Just love his "Ode to elvin" with bassplayer on youtube.. just WOW
-
he's only got four up right now, but they're all pretty interesting to watch and hear.
-
I read an interview with him where he mentioned how he developed his technique by studying some classical guys - Martha algerich, yo yo ma....something about being able to hit the middle of each fret with his fingertip exactly...would anybody care to elaborate on this if they know anything about it? I'm also really intrigued in his lines when he does the 2 voice stuff ... Would love to learn more!
-
I also heard he is a big advocate of the Alexander Technique. i think he is trying to become a teacher for it.
-
That's it! +1

This video of Julian and Frank Vignola playing Nuages is so musical and fun. They're having a great time! Sometimes jazzers look like they'd rather be somewhere else, but these guys are clearly enjoying themselves.

I believe Julian was featured on NPR this past new years eve. I remember being home from school and listening to him on the radio with my dad. He's for sure an intense player. Some of his playing reminds me of Kurt Rosenwinkel a bit.

Woow. Very nice!

Well worth the five or so minutes I spent watching it. So much to be learned too.

This guy goes beyond just having a great technique. His overall concept is what makes him truly great.

And what a great sound-- Manzer through a Twin reverb and the condenser mic.

Just picked up "Seamus Blake - Live at Small's" featuring Lage. Very nice recording! YOu can grab it on the SMALLS JAZZ CLUB 183 W. 10TH ST. NYC site for $8 USD.

I think that's the other Lage.

There are a lot of really fine young players but Julian seems to be a pretty rare talent. I look forwards to seeing where he takes his music in the future.

D'oh!! Sorry about that -- I'm an idiot (Lage Lund, not Julian Lage)!

Are you familiar with the brown archtop he plays? Do you know the model? Here he is playing it with Frank Vignola... Very cool interplay on this, by the way, two of my favorites!
