I just had my first Skype lesson with Peter Mazza....I think my head is going to explode from all the unreal stuff he showed me in just a half hour or so. The funny thing is, HE saw one of MY videos on Facebook and liked it, and asked ME if I wanted to take lessons!!! Like duh....I don't know how he does the stuff he plays, but he says he'll show me! You might want to give it a look-see.

Peter Mazza is a BEAST of a player. That's awesome that he saw one of your vids and asked you that. I'm sure you'll learn a lot.

How much do guitarists like that charge for a skype lesson?

His lessons are $100.00 for I think at least an hour, though we did not really keep track of time. He showed me so many unreal things, but it's funny; I was expecting to be completely overwhelmed, but he showed how to break down these polyphonic concepts into very simple techniques so that I was able to grasp the ideas even though he just kept coming up with more and more stuff. Other than the Mike's Masterclasses I have done, this was the best investment in learning I have spent in years. I always considered myself a slow learner; one who likes to have sheet music to go along with things and ruminate on them over and over, but he dispelled that notion. He had me moving faster than I thought I could. One example: he showed me these simultaneous arpeggios in 5th position, Ab minor moving down from the 1st string and C minor moving up from the 6th!! He just does this Jimmy Wyble stuff like it was nothing, but he showed me how to do it in minutes!! I have to go lie down again; my head is overflowing.

The problem taking with skype is that once its over unless you write stuff down you will forget what he showed you.

That's what I was expecting to happen, but it did not in this case; he really showed me how the things that sound so complex can be made simple, and I did get what he gave me.

That's a sign of a good teacher, or at the very least, a great teacher/student match. Glad to hear it worked out so well for you.

Thanks, Jeff; I hope it's "both", but it's at the very least "him".

I just had my second lesson with Peter. Astounding stuff. We worked on new things to do with Autumn Leaves. Such amazing, original concepts! Very worthwhile lessons.

Actually it is the opposite. It is very easy to record your skype lessons and than you have video and audio to review for years to come.

I bought his recording 'Through My Eyes' on iTunes this week. Fantastic recording. I believe there's a solo guitar recording in the works - can't wait for that!

I've heard he's a great teacher. I haven't heard much from him other than his chord melody of Stella By Starlight on youtube. To be honest, I wasn't much of a fan. He was putting too much in there. I'm more of a fan of Bernstein and his likes. I believe have a bit more taste and places things appropriately. Although, i have yet to hear him with a group. And I'm always welcome to learning from everyone. I've had him on my list of potential lessons for a while.
