My favorite Sonny Rollins period was the Prestige years.
Always loved this tune and performance.
    RIP.

Probably the greatest improvisor in the history of jazz. Not necessarily the greatest all-around musician, but greatest improvisor.

"Play a tune, one you've played thousands of times, but play it completely differently than you've ever played it before" -- nobody could do that better than Rollins.

    Sad news indeed!

Listened to "Sonny Rollins & The Contemporary Leaders" again today. Will do "The Bridge" tomorrow.

In addition to Miles and Sonny that's a rare date w Bird on tenor on the front line.

I wasn’t a fan of his tone but I loved Sonny’s ideas and creativity. An incredible artist.
