I would not know this was Sco if I just heard this without seeing him.

Interestingly, he plays a Gibson solid-body guitar here, I think Les Paul.
Which doesn't surprise me, because it's a very loud band.

I think it might be an Ibanez copy, a lawsuit guitar.

Scof can be recognized by his style of play and characteristic phrases.

I'm not interested in the endings, but in what happens in the middle of the tunes.

...and his slack jaw, practically drooling.

It's funny, but I was a huge fusion fan in the 1970s, and when this album came out it struck me as "second tier" fusion...all the clichés and none of the charm or originality of the pioneering fusion bands.

But I listen to it now ...and I still think it's "second tier" fusion! But there's been so much third, fourth, fifth tier fusion in the intervening years, that this Cobham/Duke Band performance is practically a breath of fresh air!

My roommate freshman year at Berklee had this album, and we used to play "Almustafa The Beloved" and sing along at the top of our lungs out the window into the dorm courtyard just to piss off our neighbors.

Agreed. Taking it a step further, it's a "Special-ized" LP Junior (two knobs, no neck binding).
Best bet is that it started life with a P90 on the bridge.
It was the 70s. Those weren't 'vintage pieces,' they were 'old guitars.'
