Great show, two weeks ago in Tulsa. Review to come. Whatever these things are, they were sitting on the piano. The keyboard player didn't seem to interact with the apparatus during the show--what might this be?

Well guys, I tried to post a picture, but just could not get it to happen. It turns out my buddy sent a picture in to somebody named "A.I." Mr. A.I. came back with this, that seems correct:
?Vertical Percussion/Trigger Towers: The two tall, shimmering structures in the background appear to be vertical xylophones or custom MIDI trigger towers. They are equipped with individual lights and what look like resonators or sensors for each "step," allowing a performer to play vertically rather than on a flat horizontal plane.
I'm over my head, obviously...I thought I had deleted the original post, but couldn't even do that.

I’ve just looked some photos from the Tulsa show on Facebook.
The objects are part of the stripped down ‘Orchestrion’ setup that Pat Metheny has integrated into his band’s performances since the Orchestrion album and tour.
They are analog instruments - xylophones, percussion etc - triggered by midi.

Was this recent concert with the "Side Eye III" band?
I see that they're coming to Tucson this summer, performing in an absolutely lovely new venue, so I'm pretty tempted to go. Just haven't quite figured out whether I like the Side Eye III material yet.

I like the Side Eye 3 stuff very well. (What happened to Side Eye 2??) It fits the pattern of his late '80s/90s records to a T. Kind of like buying a pair of PJ Flyers sneakers that feel exactly the way they did in 1970.

I really like James Francies on organ. He played on the first Side Eye and does play the organ part on one of the cuts on Side Eye 3. Very energetic keyboardist.
My only complaint is the naming of the Side Eye records. I'd be OK with 1, 2, 3, but this V1:IV stuff and III+ is crazy. Even worse--Siri doesn't understand what I'm asking her to play.

I was at the Tulsa show. Pat sounded great on electric but I found the bottom string of his (baritone?) acoustic overpowering LOUD. It was completely out of balance with the rest of the guitar, so much power. In addition, the exact same issue from the keys left hand. Not with the piano but the reed organ and electric keyboard bass notes were just BOOMING and completely out of balance with everything else.
