It's the new (small) talk of the town... I don't know what to say, it's sad and funny at the same time...
Sad/funny how seriously the guy takes himself and sad/funny how he gets kicked out by his fellow players (albeit his level is not up to theirs). Anyway, it's too short... I've no idea what happened previously...
-
We've all been there, well, at least I have. I usually got a polite word in the ear, "sit this one out...". You have to bow to the superiority of the bandstand i'm afraid

Gosh. I know SOOOO many players for whom it's a crime that they touch strains of true genius in absolute anonymity. And this guy is the rage of the internet?
On an unrelated topic: I wonder if he gives lessons? I've been looking for somebody to teach me to play Spain and by the sound of it, I may have struck the goldmine with him. He seems to have a generous and supportive personality.
-
Funny af. This is why you pick your battles. You don't have to take everyone's nonsense, but you don't want to flame out on live cam and become the tool of the internet.

It's gonna be ok. I think this deserves a dedicated thread, being jazz current events, and also a bit funny.

There is a much longer video with extended heckling from the guitarist when seated with the audience and a series of onstage incidents in the same vein as the posted clip.

Well this guy certainly made a poor impression in this video (and some others), I'll admit that some at some point it just feels like piling on. It's the nature of the Internet, of course but it does eventually go from being sadly funny to just sad. He earned some of it, for sure, but the joke wears off.

I saw the apology video on YouTube. I didn't realise that the apology clip was followed by other clips of him harassing a busker and just freaking out. The way he shouted and behaved, I dunno, that looks like some serious mental health issues at play here. Looks manic.

The full saga since people just reference the videos and don't post them:

Looking at the park crash out, he's having delusions of grandeur. So at the minimum he has a personality disorder like NPD, and it's possible he has mental illness.
-
I agree. That's unfortunate. He surely needs help.

I'm somewhat hesitant to say this, but here goes. I have known people who were going through mental health crises (especially, people with bipolar illness in the throes of manic phases), and have seen instances of acting out similar to the STL guy first hand. Though I didn't know him personally, I encountered Jaco Pastorious a few times during the period leading up to his death (and I knew a couple of people at the time who knew him well). This is a horrible situation to behold, and from Jaco's story we know how it can end in the worst cases. The STL guy shows all the hallmarks of someone off his meds in a severe manic phase. It's not funny, and it's cruel and destructive to treat at as just another meme to be spread or as fodder for tut-tutting about what's wrong with the jazz scene. People should really think twice about piling on.
