I don't think it matters in the least whether they did or did not discuss what they were going to do beforehand, or to what degree.

It's OK with me if Rags doesn't like Moreno. I only wish I could bungle that tune half as badly as Mike does. I'm such a square when it comes to comping.

I thought it was pretty good for a couple of teenagers :-)

    Neither do I much :-)

Oh, I never said I didn't like it, I just thought they weren't completely compatible. Some of his other duets on YouTube seem much more relaxed. Possibly because Moreno plays so outside a lot, but that's just my theory. And it all started with the OP not being able to keep track of where he was most of the time.

He needed some help, I don't think you helped him, you need more help than him.

If nothing else, this thread has made me listen more closely to Mike Moreno. He sounds great, wish I could play like that!

Moreno doesn't play outside a lot.
He plays modern but doesn't play outside.
His playing is clear - I'm talking about a duet recording.
I have already written about the solo version.

yes, I think he has a very personal style. If you wish, you might give a look at his video playing through the changes on my music masterclass. It is super useful. Well maybe useful for me that I consider myself an eternal beginner.

yes I’ve been looking at those, might get some (his comping one looks good too).

I’ve got a few of the my music masterclass videos and they are all really useful.

Modern is outside, otherwise it wouldn't sound modern!

Modern is a very broad term.
Jim Hall play modern and John Scofield play modern.
    Which one plays more outside?

To me it is not so modern, they play tonal tunes, you can't be lost.

On the other hand my dear Lionel, some wanted to play with you because you were modern and others because you were conservative not a wannabe Michael Brecker.

Have you analyzed any Scofield's solos?
Yes, Scofield plays, for example tonal tune and he can play brilliantly outside .
It's all very conscious play and no one gets lost.
I did a lot of transcription of his solos.
    ps.
Besides, Scof says he comes from the Jim Hall school of playing.

Here Emily and Scof play 'Stella'.They both play great, but each of them has its own language of expression.... does Scof play more modern?

Yes, it is very useful. I am working on your soundslice version. It helps a lot. You did a great job by adding the bass and click. Just these two little tricks make a huge difference. Thanks

We are used to listening to Scofield.
So we get used of "modern".
Sometimes some say it sounds like Scofield because it sounds bad.
A friend of mine said that this thing sounded a bit like Scofield but in a positive way (he is got perfect pitch).
I think he (Scofield) wouldn't be very happy of this comment.

Just because you use distortion doesn't mean you speak Scof's musical language.
Scof' sound has never been bad for me - quite the opposite.
Nobody plays with a feeling like Scof.
