I finally bought my first ever laptop. A Mac air M4. I've been tied to a Mac 27" desktop for nearly 17 years.

The laptop was a requirement as an aid to my new keyboard synth, a Yamaha Montage M8X.

Who says getting older means you can't keep learning?

This is why I needed a laptop. there's tons of sounds available to add to your keyboard. But to do so you have to go through garage band, via a computer, and then connect the laptop via a usb cord to the keyboard.

So, I've never used a synth. So many cinematic songwriters use them today. Anyway, time to dig in to learn an entirely new instrument. Wish me luck!

I need to get a laptop for music production after we get our bills paid down. Good luck and lemme know how it works out.

Amazing how well built those were! 25 years and still tearing up the house! I’ve a 22 year old Yamaha S90ES that’s still kicking but I simply wanted something new after playing the ES for so many years.

One day at a time. They’re not going anywhere!

Can't wait to get an update on the new setup. I'm looking at Ipad options for charts.

Thx Steve! It’s a true winner.

I’m old school, and feel that no digital piano will sound like an acoustic.

But, some of Yamaha’s piano voicings have gotten much closer to an actual acoustic piano.

What got under my skin was the Bosendorfer Imperial voicing. It blew me away how real it sounded, almost as if an actual felt Hammer was striking a string.

It’s also got all of the Rhodes voicings from the early and late 70’s.

The actual key bed is wood, and the key action is heavy, very close to an acoustic piano.

We got a Yamaha Clavinova a few years ago. We traded in a Hamilton (Baldwin brand) baby grand and came out just about even--$3000.

I don't play piano, so I don't care. My partner likes the digital piano well enough and doesn't miss the baby grand.

I love the look of a baby grand, but A) it was taking up space for a couch and guitars and B) it was a PITA to keep tuned and repaired (some minor issues kept coming up with pedals sticking).

Our former tuner guy was bipolar and eventually quit or retired or something--unavailable. And we had a hard time finding another tuner/repairman. So it made sense to move to a digital piano.

My son is a keyboard whiz who records and plays in the San Fran area. He is always getting a new keyboard of one type or another.

I'm stickin' to my Desktop and MuseScore Studio. You should be proud of yourself that you never used a synth.. Synths just make things sound cheesy or overproduced. Don't desert the guitar!

Big news posts always get people curious right away. Everyone wants to know what’s coming next. Sometimes it leads to bigger discussions than expected. It depends on how it unfolds. Either way, it brings people together around the topic. It’s kind of like fabfitfun reviews—anticipation plays a big role. Same kind of energy here. Looking forward to more details.
