...I mean, given our legit world-wide membership here, does Stairway to Heaven generate scowls at any music store world-wide ?
What would the others be ? ( Proud Mary ? )

    Curious of course..

    : )

I was in GC last week to pick up a hand drum for my missus, was treated to a Lynyrd Skynyrd medley.

I just play chords, lines around the fretboard on the rare music store tryout.

I haven't test-played at a GC since they started locking up or storing at ladder height anything I'd be curious about. With good reason, I concede, given the stories a manager told me about a spate of grab-and-run thefts they suffered. That's in the acoustic rooms--I've long avoided the electric sections like the plagues they are.

There’s a few options if you like to piss off staff.
Intros to Back in Black and Black Dog, preferably played with bad timing.
Of course in this season you can find a way to White Christmas.

In the 90s I asked to try out an amplifier in a shop and was handed a Stratocaster (it was an unplanned visit so I didn't bring my own instrument).
The obvious choice appeared to be "FBI" but this was not well received.

OK not saying this is a bad thing, but one of my main goals as a young guitarist was to be able to walk into a guitar shop and play Classical Gas to the envy of all the other customers.

    Mission accomplished!

The other songs that were my go-tos were Mood for a Day and Bouree.

Played CG today in fact, just a great finger-pickin’ workout.

    Here's another ' what goes around - '

Back in my college bartender days, I had a house band guitar player show me that Chet Atkins - Two-songs-at-the-same-time routine : ' Yankee Doodle Dixie '..Key of A, Yankee Doodle on the bottom, and Dixie on top........mediocre party stuff of course, but I didn't know it at the time.........
....then yesterday I found a YT vid of an old country picker who played it perfect but inverted it - he put Dixie on the bottom and Yankee Doddle on top.....
    ......'there's nothing like a good inside joke ' !

    .......Once a guitar player - - : )

I also use Mood For A Day, takes me back to my youth. I'll also use Lee Ritenour's Etude. I don't bother with electric guitars, I've given most of mine away to lower my footprint.

Hey Stormy Monday is always a good one to play in front of the kids!

The magic's not so much in what you play as how
little of the thing you don't know how to play yet.
I'm thinking intro to "Day Tripper" over and over.

If it's a quiet weekday afternoon with no punters in the shop, I'll play a nice acoustic archtop guitar unplugged for a few hours at least. I'm not sure what I play, but I repeat my self endlessly, because I've not got a huge repertoire. Sometimes, I even buy the guitar.

I'm pretty sure Rose Morris on the corner of Denmark Street had a 'no Stairway To Heaven' sign up when I went there to buy my Charvel around 1987. Years later I saw Wayne's World with that sign and now I really do wonder if I just imagined seeing it in Rose Morris. But I guess the idea for the sign in the movie had to come from somewhere. (Stairway to Heaven was part of my very limited repertoire at the time.)

Macari's on Charing Cross Road had a No Smoking sign, on which someone had added "on the water."
