That's one of the things that's handy with the Barry Harris chord approach - once you've learned the minor 6 shapes, you can use them for dominant, altered dominant and m7b5 sounds.

Yeah, I took another look at the Abm6 shape and realized it was a rootless Db9. Yer basic tritone sub.

    Hi guys,
    I love Fareed's approach.
At the moment, I want to start with one of his Improvisation courses.
Which one do you recommend firstly, modes one or Bebop one?
I want to get both, but which is the easiest?
    Thanks a lot again.

Whenever I hear him I love how he doesn't shy back one drop from 'claiming' Pat Martino.

True Fire is having a Labor Day sale and members get a discount b/w 25 and 50% (My promo code is for 40% off.)

I'm thinking of getting Fareed's comping course. I know a good many voicings and can get through many tunes but, normally, the second time around is a lot like the first time around (-unless it's a blues, where I have a bigger bag of tricks to draw from). I've got time to decide but I'm definitely leaning toward this right now.

As I said before, I loved his course and the approach to comping. I thought the accompanying print-out material could have been a little bit clearer on the chord diagrams in that at times, they did not exactly mirror what he was teaching in the applicable video and there were chords on the diagram that were called a different name from what he called them.

A 6th chord popped up as well in one segment, but I did not remember him mentioning the sixth chord at all.

Still, knowing what I know now, if Jazz comping had been my singular goal, this course would have given me a great, rudimentary approach. Cosmic Gumbo once claimed to a necessary skill was the ability to to build and breakdown chords on the fly.

This course would get you there.

I use 2-note chords (3rd and 7th) mainly while comping.

    It's great stuff.

I bought this last night. With a 40% discount, it was cheap as a single lesson. (Well, probably a lot cheaper than a single lesson with Fareed would be, and probably cheaper than even the going rate around here----been a long time since I took private lessons.) Anyway, watched about half of it last night. Covered something I didn't know and several things I had known but hadn't integrated into my playing. Good stuff.

I recommend checking out the section on Comping For Yourself. I love how he mixes the little chords and single lines.
