beautiful..inspired song choice..that's the real "songbook"!!
thought to be dowlands own lyric to the melody-
Flow, my tears, fall from your springs!
Exiled for ever, let me mourn;
Where night's black bird her sad infamy sings,
There let me live forlorn.
Down vain lights, shine you no more!
No nights are dark enough for those
That in despair their last fortunes deplore.
Light doth but shame disclose.
Never may my woes be relieved,
Since pity is fled;
And tears and sighs and groans my weary days, my weary days
Of all joys have deprived.
From the highest spire of contentment
My fortune is thrown;
And fear and grief and pain for my deserts, for my deserts
Are my hopes, since hope is gone.
Hark! you shadows that in darkness dwell,
Learn to contemn light
Happy, happy they that in hell
Feel not the world's despite.
cheers
ps- our fellow forum member rob macKillop may very well have an actual lute version recorded
hah!! verily he does

3 very different" versiones,"one with violin,one with lute and one with electric guitar.
Did you notice that on the second repetition of Each of the 3 different themes,Rob Mc Killop was really
improvising around ?

I was curious to have the MacKillop reaction concerning the Christian Miller and my own version of this tune ,but..nothing.
Maybe he is too busy actually.

Good to see that my ancestor's music is represented here!

In re my previous post: I would not have been so flippant had I read the original post, my apologies. This is truly magnificent music, composed, as I noted, by one of my ancestors. Would that I could achieve his degree of grace in music or understanding of the human condition.
It is good to see and hear his music here, appalling that the state of the world has made it necessary.
My sympathy and condolence to all those directly affected.

Hi !
Could you explain how is Dowland your ancestor ?

Excellent, what an original tribute to John Dowland! Congratulations!
In fact I did my last "studies work" on this song ! I analysed every part of it, in all aspects (history, notation, theory). I had a 16/20 from 1 teacher, and 12/20 from the other arf
