The point is that the melody is rather sparse, plaintive, and if the background's too busy it spoils it. To my ear, anyway.

Thanks Ragman, I dont agree sorry, there are tons of version of Corcovado, even with symphonic orchestras, big bands, etc... and you can always respect the melody but play with grooves and harmonies, I think thats the beauty of those tunes, and standards in general. I learnt Corcovado when I was 14 yo, Im 44 now, y dad used to play it on piano, Stan Getz version was my fav for long time but there are other ways to play it, Im sorry that some of you guys dont like my version, will work on that this week, good homework.

    Cheers.

Yeah Corcovado is one of my two or three favorites (Stella, Embraceable You, thanks for asking)

Anyway … lots of cool things about it but one is that it can be a dirge or a samba or anything in between. It can be harmonically dense or bass and melody and still sound great.

I do still agree with Christian on the time but I did not have a Brazilian roommate so take that for whatever it’s worth

BassHead you're a good player in this style, they sound like Chord Melody arrangements, please post more.

I can only speak for myself. It's not that I 'don't like it', that's a bit nebulous, it's more that I hear accents that detract from the spirit of the tune. Bossa flows, at least to my ear, and Corcovado is a very quiet, introvert sort of tune.

But we've been through that, it doesn't matter. Anyway, you're a good player, that's what matters :-)
