One of my favorite guitars is my National M-1 wood-body tricone. It's not just loud (which is why it goes to the crappy-acoustics brewery) but possessed of a surprising variety of voices. And one of my favorite wide-spectrum players, Mike Dowling, used to do to swing and blues workshops with just his single-cone National El Trovador. But then, Mike could make a fencewire diddleybow sound good.

I had a National Tricone for a few years. Still one of the most expensive guitars I ever bought. I wound up selling it cause it was expensive, very heavy to haul around, and touching the nickel finish during playing sessions meant a lot of messing around to clean up. I wish I had kept it. I also think some of the more affordable tricones have reached National quality for a lot less money though I will say the CS at National was great.
Honestly the best all around blues acoustic I ever had was a '63 Gibson LG-1. I stupidly sold it to fund the tricone, but I should've just kept it. It had amazing resonance and tone whether it was fingerpicking, strumming, or slide work.
