Why the need to gig?

I’m only out gigging because an old pro started mentoring me after I mentioned I wanted to play out at a blues jam.

Me too, but at a jazz gig I went to see.

I've also been told what's what a few times by those same people. Both those things are supportive.

Electric jazz guitar got started in 1939, and by the '60s was mainstream, well established. There were lots of jazz guitarists around by then.
