I need a mic stand for a fairly heavy mic boom. Which base do you think is more stable, the heavy round dome, or the lightweight folding tripod?

But yeah, get a K&M. It's more expensive but you will not regret it.
My organist has a tripod stand that tips when fully extended w only an SM58 mounted.
She borrowed my K&M and likes it so much I'm not sure I'm ever gonna get it back

You have ti ensure one of the tripod legs is pointing in the same direction as the boom. Not always convenient though if you need to slew it.

True, but unfortunately not possible where the stand, uh, stands, the Hammond's pedalboard is in the way
But the K&M works either way, very sturdy/stabile.

    How about this?

    K&M 20811 – Thomann United Kingdom

You can put a sandbag to make it more stable.

The heavy triangular iron base, MS25 Atlas. About 210 bucks plus you still need the boom, preferably with a counterweight if you have a very heavy mic. I have an SB36 but you need a truck or van to move it unless you take it apart and even then it's still inconvenient to get into your car, if you even can. Plus it's 400 bucks now. I paid 250 in '06....

Neither of those are really meant to leave the studio...
