Looking for jazz amp

Hello, I want to buy an used amp with good jazz sound. Polytone mini brute II or Carvin Nomad 112.
I am grateful for any information

I don't have a "real" jazz amp.

I've got to deal with a Mesa Boogie Express 5:25 and a Fender Super Champ XD. But my L5 sure sounds good running through the Bose L1 Compact as a guitar amp.

I certainly wouldn't limit yourself to those two only--they're also apples and oranges--completely different amps--what kind of jazz tone are you looking for? Who are some players that in your opinion, have a great tone?

My amp quest ended when I paired a henriksen head with a redstone speaker cab..there's lots of different ways to get the tone you want--the only thing to do is get out there and play a bunch--but if you can give me an idea of what your ideal tone is, I can at least help steer you a little.

check ebay for their selection of polytones, some vintage pieces in there that may sound very "authentic." Watch your craigslist daily, people sell some great items for very cheap on craigslist.

I've been using a ZT Club quite a lot. My ZT Lunchbox is not bad - and pretty darn good when paired with the extension cab. I keep a Roland Cube at the bar where I run a jam, but I'm finding it a bit brittle.

have a look at the good old peavey bandit! or there are some good fenders for decent prices.

if you get a bandit, make sure it's the transtube and that it has the vintage/modern switch in the clean channel and the loose/tight in the master section. These were known as the red stripe and blue stripe versions. The other versions (including the head) were very different and did not sound anywhere near as good for jazz. Also, the speakers are not great in those amps. I replaced mine with a WGS ET65 and it improved the sound greatly

kawa, i can't agree that the envoy is anything like a vibrolux reverb. Not even close. At best it's a good practice amp. Many of the SS amps (peavey transtube bandit included) sound good in the bedroom but out on a gig they just don't cut it. My 35 watt gries amp smokes the 80 watt peavey bandit on a gig. At home the bandit sounds great for smaller rehearsals and practicing.

Hi jzucker, just my report by footswitch testing system, Emvoy 110 is very fat sounnds and good for jazz, Bluemarvel is good.

For mini live. Good sound(almost tube sound) 10"40W Compact. Light weight. Continuously (company and model) Cheep cost. Design. Week point:Protect cover is no prepared. (I making cover by peavey shipping box ,down sizing by cutter and fitting,cutout carring handle part)

I bought ENVOY 110 for testing and got the good Jazz Tone.

kessel and hall were using whatever the "house" provided. I have used a bandit for years. It's a good amp. Nothing like a Vibrolux Reverb though.

Sorry to burst your bubble but harmony-central is well known to be a horrible review site populated mostly by young kids and folks trying to hype equipment that they have forsale.

Not really a fan of peavey ss amps...nothing a henriksen, polytone, or even a roland cube could do at 10 lbs. Less weight...

Btw, I actually prefer to gig ss amps...now I'm playing around with recording a ss and a tube amp and blending the signal...I'm not there yet, but once I get mic placement figured out I have a hunch that's gonna be "the tone" for me.

That is my impression as well. Nice place for an enthusiastic consumer, and maybe not the greatest guide for decisions.

As for general pedantic web-gasbag opinion stated as fact, you can find that everywhere; it seems to be a forum requirement even. In my opinion, Harmony central is no worse than anywhere else in that regard.

that's what benson does. I've done that before and it's the ultimate in tone but these days I don't want to lug all that stuff around.

Check pawn shops and don't be afraid to check out bass amps. There's another forum thread on using bass amps for jazz, given they are usually very clean. I ended up with a Polytone bass amp that is a perfect fit for me, especially given the price at the pawn shop.

my favorite jazz amp is my Gries 35. It's basically a vibrolux reverb clone in a 112 configuration. There's *NEVER* a problem except on really loud gigs.

On the other point, I also use a markbass LM II amplifier.
