Clark Terry, James Moody, Illinois Jacquet, Art Farmer, Roy Haynes on drums----that's one helluva band!

I went to those first Newport in NY concerts. Kenny played that exact same solo guitar arr. of "People" at the Felt Forum. I don't know where this was.
. I'll never forget those first two chords. They were a whole step apart, but they weren't the melody notes. They were a fourth above the B and C#, the melody notes in the key of A.
I was just a young kid and I didn't know you could do things like that.

The sixties were strange times. I was hanging out with some very good young blues players-they knew Hendrix inside and out.

And the strangeness here is they did not consider Smith "Jazz" He was advanced blues and Burrell was his mirror image on guitar.

they would try their best to get that Smith groove and cover all over it with some Kenny chord magic.

    Saving that for later.

Not fantastic. Incredible. The Incredible Jimmy Smith.

Back before I gave away all my CD's I probably had more Jimmy Smith albums than any other artist except maybe Hendrix. One of my all time favorites.
