Re: "Darn That Dream." If you've access to Youtube, a search can often unearth many versions and I use it quite often to get ideas for my own arrangements. Don't overlook vocal versions either, as many contain great solos .
Good luck and happy hunting !

Ok checked it out, that is more like medium/slow swing!

    200bpm plus, anyone?

    Just curious!

Yes, but they are all ballads, which is fine, I really don't have a reason I'm looking for this, just somehow curious if there are some famous (or even not famous) versions of this tune uptempo.

Search for Ahmad Jamal...still not 200...probably around 160-170?

Oh yeah that's the one that got me curious if there were more, and maybe even faster!

An uptempo feel can be achieved bass walking on the 8th note, similar in a way to Cherokee, slow melody/fast tune.
An alternative would be to play each measure as 2 bars of 3/4.

How fast do you want to hear that melody?

Thanks Bako, I was thinking Q note 200 or ideally higher, with the same harmonic rhythm as it's usually played.

After making this post I remembered I took up a project once of trying to play some busy ballads (like Body and Soul or Prelude to a Kiss) at fast tempos, was a fun thing to explore.

This may be somewhat out of place, but I always though Darn That Dream sounds pretty cool as a "chilled Lime Rickey with a beautiful woman at sunset" bossa nova. But probably not fast enough. Margarita would be a good alternative.

PS This is all relative to the lead sheets I have which have the lyric "Darn that dream" on beats 1, 2, and 3 of first measure.

Lage Lund takes the tune at a similar tempo on his "Standards" album.
