I came across this video on my computer of a practice session from two years ago and thought that I would post it here.
If I recall correctly, there was a discussion as to how to navigate the Inner Urge bridge using hacks. I am not using any hacks, just playing on the changes.
I would like to give credit for the playback track to Camilo Valandria
This is his basic track but then I gradually added additional percussion to make each chorus have some sense of development and build.
Maybe someone can get something out of this.

This made me make the stank face.
Luckily no-one was there to witness it, or they may have tried to medicate me.

Holy hell, man. Great playing. I was able to avoid the stank face bit only because I was warned and made an effort not to
-
Excellent, it put a smile on my face!
-
@Christian-Sorry about your face.
@Joe2758-Glad you like it. I have posted a dozen or so videos here in the past two years, many of which I think are probably more interesting. Have a listen.
@Graham. Thanks, smiling is always good.Last edited by Question; 05-31-2026 at 05:18 AM.

I always hated this tune, still do... But in this funky smooth jazz arrangement it doesn't sound too bad I can admit. In fact it's pretty good, and I like your playing!
-
Steve Khan also played it with a funky beat but in odd meters.....
And Latin tinged....

Real jazz playing.

Super cool!

@Hep -I also don't really have any great affinity for Inner Urge, though I love Joe Henderson.
This recording came about related to a thread about how difficult the bridge is to improvise over, and various "hacks" to make it more manageable.
Since I like to challenge myself, I tried learning Inner Urge and quickly realized that just playing over the "real" changes was the easiest for me.
Concepts like "play this or that pentatonic scale up so or so interval", which have legitimate uses, not only made it more complicated but also for me makes the melodic content weaker.
Just to be clear, the main backing track is from Camilo Valandria and I just added more percussion each chorus to make it less static.

I like the guitar tone. Is that a drive pedal or a plug in?

@Christian- It is Guitar (mostly bridge pickup)-RC Booster-Princeton-Mic-Logic.
-
Excellent, well done.
-
Interesting! I might have to give the RC a try as I also have a Princeton

@Kris-thanks. Yes I would also like to hear more videos from the more experienced players on the forum.
Guys like Jimmy Blue Note and sgcim are obviously experienced players, but I don't believe that I have ever seen a video post from either of them. I think posting videos of their playing would help to add more weight to their opinions.
Also, maybe it would be helpful if people wouldn't hide behind their screen names; this would maybe encourage people to reflect more on the tone of what they write.
(My screen name is obviously not my real name, but I do have my identity and website listed in my profile)
@Christian-I am not really very gear obsessed, but the RC booster has been on my pedal-board for 20 years!
It seems to have a portion of the direct signal running parallel to the boosted signal, which I think is good if you need a more articulated sound.

Very valuable observations.
I have the impression that people here on the forum prefer to talk endlessly.
I also let myself be drawn into various discussions.
This may be the reason why they don't have time for their guitar presentations.
My preferences are as follows: first playing-recording and then a factual discussion.
It would certainly be beneficial for all participants of this guitar forum.
But it is what it is.
Best

You're a good player Kris. Keep up the good work.
Like myself, the majority of people on this forum are Hobbyist Jazz guitar players, we're passionate about Jazz guitar, but most have a steady day job that may include some "Forum typing time", between short bouts of actual work.
