With some reckless abandon (anything goes) as I’m just enjoying my first session back in my studio after the spinal surgery three weeks and a day ago. The title of the song fits my situation, but I love playing and I love that I CAN still play !!!Last edited by Mark Kleinhaut; 02-13-2026 at 09:43 AM.

I'm sure we all love that you love playing and can still play! Cherish those moments.

Indeed, we can’t afford to take anything for granted. The older I get the sharper this comes into focus. I was reading a comment earlier today from an outstanding seasoned and very accomplished player I know who said that finding “the zone” when playing has become increasingly rare. I was stunned to hear this as the gentleman is absolute master of the instrument and the jazz idiom. He could pull phrases out of his ass that would make many players weep with envy. But the thing is, he’s not pulling the music from his ass, he’s pulling it from his head. In doing so, would appear he’s dissatisfied. I’m interpreting, of course, because all he said was he wasn’t hitting the zone very often, and to me that’s a show stopping statement because for me inhabiting the zone is everything. It’s got to be every time I’m playing. And yes, that means I’m mostly playing out of my ass, but that’s just fine by me- I’ll totally live with that.
