Hello, jazz people. Our standard for Dec 2025 will be In a Mellotone (Duke Ellington, Milt Gabler, 1940).

    Background:

I'm really glad the tune for the month is not In a Mellotone, as the thread title suggests, because it only sounds good on a Mellotron and I can't play that instrument.

The tune's changes are based on In Sunny Roseland (Rose Room) - 1918

    Love both tunes!

Are you using pick, fingers, or both?

    Nice playing.

    Thank you.
I used my fingers-right hand in this recording.

Here's a slower one, some people do it slow. It's in C, not because it's easier but because C gives you a wider scope on the neck. Of course, whether this is 'jazz' or not is something else. Guy will doubtless have his thoughts on that.

Whatever, it's very pleasant listening, very relaxing, English Folk Jazz.

Nice tune! I haven't done a PS for a long time, so I turned this one out while practicing tonight. I hope you like it.

Not bad, not bad, but definitely not folky enough :-)

Thanks! Eastman ER1-7 through BAM200 and Toob Metro BG+. TI JS112s over a 75 Chrome 7th, picked with a Dunlop Jazztone 204. It was close mic’ed with my TASCAM DR40x used as a DAI into Audacity.

I played a Telecaster with GHS Pat Martino strings.
It may sound like nylons because I played with my fingers and used some mini effects.
