Cheers!

Hey, nice playing! I didn't watch all of your video because it's quite long but enjoyed both the rubato chord melody and single line soloing.
I started a thread in Showcase for my own performance of this tune. Maybe this could be a thread for playing unaccompanied performances of this tune?
Anyway, nice playing, probably more idiomatically jazzy than my own.
This might be of some interest -
-
Hey man thanks, really nice video on YT, btw what u men by more idiomatically jazzy? Im from Spain LOL
-
I just meant more jazzy... the word 'idiomatically' doesn't add much really haha...

Ima post a new cover of all the things you are on guitar soon, in the meantime Id like to show you this bass line I just compose adapting this progression to a Flamenco groove call Bulerías, hope you dig it

I just uploaded a new version, please be honest, I need brutal truth here, being practicing this tune for ever, Ive recorded like more than 10 versions and I think I used to do it better LOL not sure if Im going backwards or what.

Well, the sound of the nylon string guitar is less than ideal for sure. Otherwise, you work through the tune fine but sometimes it is all about the sound that is recorded.

The recording was not so good in sound and some of it may have been your technique. They go together is in a certain way but sometimes recordings can make anything look bad. Just listening and looking I would say it did not come across fluid sort of stabbing at the chords. That can be intentional if that is what you are after. I like the notes to hang on a bit on this tune when working melody.

No brutal truth from my corner. Sounds good. Good time feel. A solid foundation.

I got what looks like a joke video with a cartoon skull superimposed over the guitarist's face and has no sound. That makes it a bit difficult to judge. I looked at a couple other videos; there was one of comping on Billie's Bounce and my advice there is to stop playing so staccato and swing it more.

Maybe the next time you record, once you're done recording your playing, put the audio backing track that you're listening to underneath. Minimally the bass and drums so we can understand how you're comping/playing against the bass and drums. We need to know the context.
2. Accessibility.
Post your video (your audio and the back track audio) on YouTube or a platform that has a progress bar. This bar allows us to find the good parts of your playing or the problematic parts. Give some control to your viewer/listener. When you force the listener to listen to everything without the ability to scroll on the progress bar to find parts they like, nobody is going to bother watching your video. This is not to say that you're playing badly. This is just making your content more accessible to listeners and reviewers who want to help you.
3. Specificity.
Don't post a long video and ask for 'brutal truth' or what we think. What do we think about what? Your time? Your tone? Your technique? Your articulation? Your vocab? Your chords? What do you want us to listen out for? Long video = Lots of things happening. When you just ask for what we think generally, the problem is too large for us, it becomes more likely for reviewers to ignore your long video and not even bothering to give you advice. Make it easier for reviewers. What do you want to know specifically? Tell us. E.g. "Guys, I need help. Is my swing too exaggerated? Or is it relaxed? If it's too exaggerated, how can I make it more relaxed?" Know how to ask good questions, then you will get good answers.

Nothing sticks out as particularly bad to my ears. Just go and find jazz musicians and jam with them already.
You are more than ready. You don't need our permission or validation to say that you're ready and good. You're already solid.Last edited by brent.h; 11-26-2025 at 01:44 AM.

Thanks guys, Im starting to see a pattern tho, what for me is cool/groovy/bouncy a bit funky syncopation for you sounds jumpy/stabby/staccato...so maybe theres something to focus there, Im from Spain, love flamenco, afro cuban, brazilian stuff so Im a syncopation junkie and I like that type of staccato but for whatever reason sounds weird to some of you.
In this particular video Im not listening to anything, is a bit more free/rubato, which to me is harder as Im too used to use some type of click, loop or bt on cans and as good drummer say...thats like walking with crutches.

It sounds good, they're being dumbasses. The difference is obviously cultural, it's sound playing. You'll get a better response tho if you present it better. No skull filter, song form with head, solos, head, not jumping to different sections.

I like your playing, but the sound quality isn't very pleasant for listening, it sounds like playing underwater.
Maybe, consider using a better quality recorder and posting on Youtube with higher quality sound.
-
Ok sorry for the bad quality, yeah its true that insta degrades the sound to a point that looks like Im using a chorus pedal

I think ima record a new version with the acoustic steel string guitar and shorter.
-
Please, post on Soundcloud and compare the sound quality to Instagram.
