I always love this tune by Miles, or Bill or whomever

Whomever did write some of the greatest jazz standards but rarely gets credit for them.

I'm curious, Mark, do you give much thought to a tune's original chord changes, or do you just let your ears lead you wherever they will?

Most guitarists have trouble playing with their eyes closed, the opposite seems to be true of you.

    .
I’m always aware of the changes and form- the melody too, but I definitely want to be open-ear about things and willing to go off on tangents. They’re by no means mutually exclusive - though the jazz police sometimes take umbrage with the liberties I’ll take. Hope that answers your question. The bigger question is what thoughts about changes can mean when improvising; scales? Tonal centers? Arps and inversions? Counterpoints and all that sort of stuff…

I particularly enjoyed this one! Nice and natural groove to it. I hear how you love it.
